Job Title: Professional Land SurveyorLocation: Montana (Preferably Butte)Job Type: Full-TimeDepartment: Surveying/Technical ServicesReports To: Survey Manager/Technical Services Business Group LeaderJob Summary:We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Professional Land Surveyor to lead and oversee land surveying projects across various areas. The ideal candidate will have deep technical knowledge of land surveying practices, strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage complex projects from planning through completion. This role involves supervising field crews, ensuring accuracy of data collection, and preparing detailed survey reports and maps that support engineering, construction, and land development activities.Key Responsibilities:Plan, coordinate, and oversee all aspects of land surveying projects.Conduct and supervise boundary, topographic, construction, and as-built surveys.Lead field survey teams, providing technical guidance and mentorship.Analyze and interpret survey data, legal records, and technical documents.Prepare and review survey drawings, plats, and legal descriptions.Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.Utilize surveying instruments (e.g., total stations, GPS, drones, levels) and software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Carlson, Leica Infinity).Collaborate with engineers, architects, planners, and construction teams.Maintain accurate survey records and documentation.Perform quality control checks and resolve discrepancies or legal boundary issues.Support proposal preparation and project estimation when required.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field.Licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) required in Montana.Minimum 7-10 years of progressive experience in land surveying.Strong proficiency in modern surveying tools and software.Excellent understanding of land laws, boundary resolution, and mapping standards.Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills.Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites.Preferred Skills:Experience in construction staking, site development, and GIS.Drone (UAV) mapping and photogrammetry experience.Knowledge of local land use regulations and permitting processes.Familiarity with BIM or 3D modeling is a plus.Work Environment:Combination of office work and fieldwork in various weather conditions.May require travel to multiple sites or remote locations.Compensation and Benefits:Salary will be based on experience.
