Join CARB and help us improve the lives of all Californians.Department Website: http://www.arb.ca.govJob Description And DutiesThis position can be located in Sacramento or Riverside County.The Enforcement Division (ED) of the California Air Resources Board (CARB) is recruiting for a Staff Air Pollution Specialist (SAPS) to work in its Vehicle Enforcement Section (VES).The VES is responsible for enforcing CARB regulations designed to improve air quality by reducing emissions generated by (1) non-compliant on- road vehicles, including cars, trucks, motorcycles, recreational marine vessels, and kit cars, and (2) non-compliant off-highway recreational vehicles, including all-terrain vehicles, sand rails, sand carts, utility carts, golf carts, dirt bikes, and other off-highway recreational vehicles with greater than 25- horsepower engines.This position will be a SAPS position which includes a specialization in several areas of environmental inspections and investigations. This work deals with technically complex automotive and aftermarket industries, high-profile defeat device cases, and are politically sensitive that typically involve coordination with internal CARB divisions, federal agencies, state attorney(s), sometimes local governments, and or the general public.Positions at this level require expertise that is significantly greater than full journey level analytical assignments and are mission critical to CARB's basic mission. A SAPS will be familiar with regulation(s), investigation(s), and ED settlement experience (including but not limited to enforcement policies, penalty calculations, precedents, and standard process experience) in addition with the types of programs and assignments consistent with the mission statement of VES.
