This role requires technical proficiency that does not necessitate constant supervision. Key responsibilities include producing diagnostic radiographic exams by accurately positioning patients. The technologist provides immobilization devices and selects proper technical factors based on individual patient needs. Equipment selection and operation are essential for specific procedures. The technologist restricts radiation beams using cone and collimating devices. This ensures non-exposure of radiation to unaffected areas of the patient. Portable x-ray examinations are performed in patient rooms, operating rooms, and emergency rooms. Operational procedures must be followed to identify patient films with names and x-ray numbers. Films must be accurately marked to indicate the side of the patient taken. The technologist is responsible for developing exposed x-ray film using available processing methods. Patient requisitions must be completed with technologist initials, date, number, and size of the film. Maintaining an orderly x-ray room is required as directed by the department head. Preparing radiopaque contrast media and assisting physicians with patient administration is expected. Administrative duties include scheduling appointments, providing patient instructions, and filing films. The technologist assists patients with mobility based on their individual needs and abilities. This includes helping patients move, turn, and get on and off x-ray tables. The role requires lifting a minimum of 5 lbs., pushing and pulling a minimum of 10 lbs., and standing for a minimum of 6 hours daily. Identifying and addressing the needs of the patient population served is essential. Care must be modified and delivered based on patient age, culture, language, and any sensory impairments. Effective communication with patients and caregivers is crucial to ensure understanding. Adherence to organizational competencies is mandatory.
