Your future starts here.PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:CPKC is dedicated to ensuring uninterrupted, year-round railway operations, functioning 24/7 to maintain excellence in the Engineering Operations domain. A vital component of this effort lies with the Signal and Communications (S&C) team, whose expertise ensures the safety and reliability of our signal systems through rigorous Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulatory tests and inspections. S&C personnel play a critical role in the installation, repair, and maintenance of essential equipment, including signals, crossing lights, switch machines, and other vital infrastructure. Depending on experience, individuals may hold positions ranging from Assistant Signalman, Signalman or Qualified Signal Maintainer.POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:Dig, cable repair, assemble and install signal equipment, pole line workRepair and/or replace damaged equipment, test and verify accurate operation of S&C systems and equipmentPerform preventive maintenance on all S&C apparatusPerform inspections and testing as required on each deviceReport problems; failures or unsafe conditionsEnsure there is enough material on hand to permit work or repairs to be completed without undue delayMake authorized corrections and modificationsAdept at performing efficiently both autonomously and as part of a teamAlign with company regulatory rules and policies to uphold safety and operational excellenceOther general duties can include cable locates, painting, and housekeeping of signal housing & equipment and climbing laddersPOSITION REQUIREMENTS:High school diploma or equivalencyMust be at least 18 years of ageValid driver's license to operate company vehicle; commercial driver's license is preferred3+ years of hands-on experience in S&C maintenance and renewal, demonstrating proven expertise in signaling systems from the railroad or similar industriesAcquire certifications in CPKC's safety rules and medical cardAvailable to work all types of shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays in all weather conditionsStrong communication skills, with a proven ability to deliver clear instructions and foster effective teamworkDemonstrate strong safety focus by following protocols and prioritizing team health and safetyWHAT CPKC HAS TO OFFER:Flexible and competitive benefits packageCompetitive company pension and/or retirement plansEmployee share purchase planAnnual fitness subsidyPart-time studies programPRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:Medical and Drug TestingThis is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company or regulated drug test is required.
