This position will provide oversight of statewide background check processes for IDEC, including statewide checks for license exempt facilities. The role requires excellent organizational skills and strong leadership skills.BenefitsHealth, life, vision, and dental insurancePaid Parental leavePension PlanDeferred Compensation and other pre-tax benefit programsEmployees earn 12 paid sick days annually10-25 paid vacation days (based on years of service)Employees earn 3 paid personal days (pro-rated based on start date)13-14 paid state holidays annuallyEssential FunctionsServe as the Associate Director of Safety for the Illinois Department of Early Childhood (IDEC).Act as a full line supervisor.Provide consultation and interpret requirements of criminal statutes and IDEC licensing rules for IDEC in applying evaluative criteria.Facilitate effective communication with the Illinois State Police and the fingerprint service vendor to ensure cooperation and refine processing of background checks.Develop training manuals and training programs.Prepare statistical and narrative reports on background checks and results for the Director of Safety and the Chief Quality & Safety Officer.Perform other duties as required or assigned within the scope of the duties enumerated above.Minimum QualificationsKnowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in business or public administration.Four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a public or private organization.Preferred QualificationsFour (4) years of professional experience conducting statewide employment background checks.Three (3) years of professional supervisory experience assigning work, providing guidance to subordinates, recommending counseling and/or discipline following collective bargaining agreements, training staff, and approving time off.Three (3) years of professional experience interpreting and implementing policies, procedures and goals for early childhood services.Three (3) years of professional experience communicating with both internal and external stakeholders daily, ensuring detailed and critical analysis of work performed.Three (3) years of professional experience preparing and presenting training materials for a public or private entity.Three (3) years of professional experience training staff.Conditions of EmploymentRequires a criminal history check through the Illinois State Police.Requires the ability to use agency-supplied equipment (e.g., laptop, monitor, personal computer, and work cell phone).Requires the ability to work regularly on site at the designated work location.Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
