Senior Preconstruction & Estimating Lead Pleasanton, CA Reports To: Chief EstimatorCompensation: $155,000 – $190,000/year + benefits ABOUT THE COMPANY:A well-established general contractor specializing in commercial, residential, healthcare, education, life sciences, industrial, and tenant improvement projects. The firm delivers work across ground-up construction, renovations, and complex buildouts, with a strong focus on preconstruction excellence, cost certainty, and collaborative project delivery ROLE OVERVIEW:Lead end-to-end estimating efforts for complex conceptual, negotiated, and hard-bid projects. This role partners closely with project managers, clients, and internal teams to develop accurate, competitive, and risk-informed estimates that support successful project delivery and winning bids KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Lead preparation of detailed commercial and residential estimates in line with bid procedures and company standardsDrive subcontractor bid strategy, including scope development, bid leveling, and trade partner selectionReview drawings, specifications, and contract requirements to ensure complete and accurate pricingDevelop preliminary construction schedules to support estimates when requiredPrepare full bid packages, including general conditions, clarifications, exclusions, and cost breakdownsLead and coordinate estimating team members on large or complex projectsManage RFIs and ensure accurate distribution and tracking during preconstructionPerform detailed quantity takeoffs across all tradesConduct subcontractor comparisons, evaluations, and bid levelingServe as primary contact for subcontractor bidding inquiriesProvide value engineering solutions and cost analysis recommendationsPrepare turnover packages for transition to operations teamsSupport post-bid buyout and procurement activitiesConduct job walks and coordinate subcontractor participationMaintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal stakeholdersMentor and support junior estimators and project engineers KEY QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferredAt least 7+ years of construction estimating experience in commercial/residential projectsAt least 3+ years in a lead or supervisory estimating role preferred CORE COMPETENCIES: Technical Skills:Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, Teams, Outlook)Experience with Procore or similar construction management platformsFamiliarity with digital document management tools (SharePoint, OneDrive, Google Docs) Organizational StrengthsStrong attention to detail and accuracy under pressureAbility to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced environmentsResourceful, responsive, and highly reliable Communication & LeadershipStrong written and verbal communication skillsProfessional demeanor with sound judgment and discretionAbility to lead teams and collaborate across stakeholders BENEFITS:Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance401(k) retirement plan with company matchPaid Time Off (PTO) and paid holidaysParental leave benefitsEmployee training, mentorship, and career development programsStrong safety-first culture and structured onboarding supportAdditional wellness and employee support programs We are an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to maintaining a workplace free from discrimination and harassment based on race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression), national origin, age, disability, marital status, genetic information, veteran status, or any other protected status under applicable law.
