Senior Controls Engineer - Hybrid/Remote

a { text-decoration: none; color: #464feb; } tr th, tr td { border: 1px solid #e6e6e6; } tr th { background-color: #f5f5f5; } Position OverviewThe Senior Controls Engineer plays a lead role in the design, development, implementation, and commissioning of advanced material handling and automation systems. This position is responsible for delivering robust PLC- and HMI-based control solutions while providing technical leadership across large-scale projects. The role collaborates closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, project managers, vendors, and field personnel to ensure systems are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with customer requirements. The position may be office-based or remote for highly qualified candidates, with regular travel to project sites.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the controls and electrical engineering scope for large, complex material handling and automation projects.Design controls and communication architectures, including PLC platforms, distributed I/O systems, and industrial Ethernet networks.Develop PLC programs, HMI applications, I/O lists, and device configurations in support of project requirements.Configure and commission field devices such as conveyor systems, motor-driven rollers (MDRs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), scanners, scales, printers, and remote I/O modules.Lead onsite system installation, testing, startup, and commissioning activities.Provide technical leadership and mentorship to other controls engineers throughout the project lifecycle.Coordinate closely with electrical, mechanical, systems, software, and applications engineering teams, as well as subcontractors and project managers.Support the electrical design team by reviewing designs, resolving technical issues, and ensuring compliance with electrical codes and best practices.Develop requests for proposal (RFPs) to support vendor evaluation and selection processes.Deliver professional presentations and technical documentation to internal teams, customers, and project stakeholders.Maintain organized repositories for PLC, HMI, and configuration files, ensuring proper version control and documentation.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field;Extensive experience developing PLC and HMI programs for large-scale industrial or material handling systems.Strong background configuring and commissioning industrial devices, including VFDs, scanners, scales, MDR systems, and related equipment.Proven experience designing and commissioning Ethernet-based industrial communication networks.Knowledge of electrical and PLC safety circuits, applicable codes, and accepted electrical practices.Demonstrated ability to lead large control system projects from design through commissioning.Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interface professionally with technical and non-technical stakeholders.Willingness to travel up to approximately 30% to support project execution.BenefitsCompetitive compensation - Salary $110,000 - $135,000Full benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision coverageRetirement savings plan with company contributionPaid time off and paid holidaysFlexible work arrangements, including remote options for qualified candidatesOpportunities to work on complex, high-visibility automation and material handling projects
