Mechanical Maintenance Technician (Memphis)
Position SummaryThe Mechanical Maintenance Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical equipment in a heavy industrial environment. This role focuses heavily on rotating equipment, ensuring optimal reliability and performance of critical assets such as compressors, pumps, motors, turbines, and associated systems. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on experience, a safety-first mindset, and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex mechanical issues.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on rotating and stationary mechanical equipmentTroubleshoot and repair industrial compressors, pumps, motors, turbines, gearboxes, and blowersConduct precision alignment (laser/dial), balancing, and vibration checks on rotating equipmentInspect and maintain heat exchangers and associated thermal systemsDisassemble, inspect, repair, and reassemble mechanical components to OEM specificationsInterpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and technical manualsIdentify root causes of equipment failures and implement corrective actionsSupport condition-based monitoring programs, including vibration analysis and oil analysisEnsure all work is completed in compliance with safety standards, procedures, and regulatory requirementsCollaborate with operations and engineering teams to improve equipment reliability and uptimeDocument maintenance activities using CMMS systemsQualificationsMinimum of 5 years of mechanical maintenance experience in a heavy industrial environment (e.g., manufacturing, petrochemical, power generation, steel, chemical, pulp & paper, or similar)Strong experience working with rotating equipment (compressors, pumps, motors, turbines, gearboxes, blowers)Proficiency in precision alignment, equipment rebuilds, and mechanical troubleshootingExperience with predictive maintenance technologies (vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis) preferredAbility to read and interpret technical drawings and equipment manualsFamiliarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systemsEducation & CertificationsHigh school diploma or GED requiredTechnical degree or certification in Mechanical Maintenance, Industrial Maintenance, or related field preferredMillwright certification or equivalent experience is a plusSkills & CompetenciesStrong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skillsAttention to detail and commitment to quality workmanshipAbility to work independently and in a team environmentEffective communication and documentation skillsStrong commitment to workplace safetyWork Environment & Physical RequirementsWork performed in a heavy industrial environment with exposure to noise, heat, and moving machineryAbility to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in confined spacesWillingness to work shifts, overtime, and respond to call-outs as needed
