Salary: $20.04 - $27.12 HourlyLocation : Broomfield Community Center, COJob Type: TM Non-BenefitedJob Number: 2026-00009Department: Parks, Recreation & Senior ServicesDivision: RecreationOpening Date: 01/22/2026Closing Date: ContinuousFLSA: Non-ExemptDescriptionBroomfield is currently recruiting for Camp Explorer Directors & Assistant DirectorsThe Camp Director and Camp Assistant Director specializes in operation of camp programs which may include state license compliance, and curriculum development for participants ranging in age (5-12) Palooza and (K-14) Camp Explorer. Camp Directors / Assistant Directors maintain a safe and welcoming environment for the participants while following the State Licensing rules and regulations. Primary responsibilities include overseeing a specific age group within the program, and assigned staff- leaders, along with all aspects of the program which may include staff management and family interactions. The camp Director / Assistant Director models appropriate behavior to create and maintain a resilient work culture within the camp work environment.Camp Explorer offers camp in October, November, December, February, March and April as well as all Summer.Weekly hours range Monday-Friday from 7:30am - 5:30pm.Locations are Broomfield Heights Middle School for K-5, Broomfield Commons Park for Middle School programs, and Broomfield Community Center for Extension Camp.Salary Range:Camp Assistant Director - $18.22 - $24.65/hourCamp Director - $20.04 - $27.11/hourEssential Required Tasks/Examples of Duties(The following statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other nonessential or peripheral duties that may be required. Examples of duties are not intended to be all-inclusive or restrictive.)Develops or assists with the development and coordination of daily activities, field trips, enrichment classes/programs and special events.Contributes to the preparation and review of the Youth and Teen programs policies and procedures as necessary to maintain the effectiveness of the program.Recognizes the ability of the children in the camps and programs accordingly to meet the needs of the individuals.Leads all programs by example; coordinates and instructs safe and age appropriate programs activities.Assists with training staff and conducting meetings.Provides support to program leaders and Assistant Directors overseeing the entire campsite by managing day to day operations and/or Recreation Coordinator.Responsible for purchasing and invoicing supplies needed for the activities.Administers first aid treatment, providing emergency services when necessary.Responsible for proper use and care of materials, equipment, site and facility useInteracts and plays with children in activities that can include the following actions: running, reading, drawing, coloring, talking, walking and singing.Provides comfort and support to upset children.Administrative duties: Supports leaders with Head count documentation, first aid documentationComplete required training/ certifications in a timely manner.Responsible for the safety of all children.Works with the team to avoid duplication of service and to ensure that customer expectations are recognized and resolved thereby maximizing customer satisfaction.Communicates with customers and employees appropriately and in a timely manner.Minimum QualificationsEducation and ExperienceAssistant Director:910 hours of satisfactory and verifiable paid or volunteer experience, since attaining the age of 18, in the care of supervision of four or more children.Director:Candidates must meet one of the following qualification pathways. All education must be from an accredited or regionally accredited institution, and experience must be verifiable and involve the care and supervision of four or more children (age 4 or older) who are not related to the individual, unless otherwise noted.Pathway 1: Bachelor's Degree or HigherA Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree in a directly related field (e.g., Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a closely related discipline), as determined by the Department. (Coursework will be reviewed to ensure alignment with early childhood education requirements.)ORA Bachelor's degree in an unrelated field, plus:Completion of 10 required early childhood education (ECE) courses as outlined in applicable rules, and at least 3 months (455 hours) of verified experience caring for and supervising children.Pathway 2: Associate's Degree or Equivalent CourseworkAn Associate's degree or 60 semester credit hours from an accredited college or university, plus at least 12 months (1,820 hours) of verified experience working with children.Pathway 3: Experience-Based (No Degree)Twenty-four (24) months (3,640 hours) of verified experience caring for and supervising children, plus completion of 10 specific early childhood education (ECE) courses as required by rule.Additional Acceptable CredentialsA current Early Childhood Professional Credential (Level II or higher, Version 3.0), as determined by the Department, may satisfy education and/or training requirements in combination with experience, consistent with state regulations.In some cases, completion of 6 semester credit hours from a regionally accredited college or 40 clock hours of training related to school-age children within the first 9 months of the director position may be accepted, as permitted by rule.*Please note that if you are selected to interview, you will be required to bring official documentation verifying your number of hours worked.NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: in-person or virtual interviews, reference checks, background checks including local police check and sex-offender registry.Assistant Director - Must be 20 years of ageDirector - Must be 21 years of ageMust possess a First Aid/CPR certification within 90 days of hire, and maintained for continued employment.Positions assigned to Camp Explorer must comply with all licensing regulations including fingerprint check through CBI/FBI.Working Conditions(The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.
