York Country Day School Summer Camp Counselor (Preschool-Pre-K)

York Country Day School is seeking Summer Camp Counselors for the period of June 1, 2026 through August 7, 2026. Positions offer a flexible schedule of up to 29 hours per week, scheduled between 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Summer Camp Counselors will assist the Program Director and Summer Program Supervisors with daily instruction and activities for preschool students. This program is regulated by the Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL); therefore, all staff are required to adhere to state regulations at all times. Responsibilities include active supervision, developmentally appropriate practices, and engaging children in safe, meaningful learning experiences. Candidates must demonstrate patience, reliability, flexibility, enthusiasm, and a genuine interest in working with young children. Outcome: The Summer Program Counselor is responsible for planning and managing daily activities that promote a safe, engaging, and positive environment for all participants. Counselors will actively supervise and support children, adhere to the established summer program schedule, and ensure the safety and well-being of all participants at all times. Summer Program Counselors will communicate participant needs, concerns, and incidents to their supervisor as necessary. Essential Functions: ● Demonstrate the ability to lead and effectively manage a preschool classroom of summer program participants ● Ensure active supervision, use developmentally appropriate practices and responses, and facilitate engage, age-appropriate activities while maintaining the health and safety of children and the environment ● Maintain trustworthiness, punctuality, and the ability to consistently follow and enforce program rules, policies and guidelines ● Adhere to all safety, health, and emergency procedures and protocols ● Serve as a positive team member by communicating effectively and professionally with administrators, supervisors, colleagues, children and families. Required Qualifications: ● Must be 18 years of age or older ● High school diploma or equivalent ● Prior experience working with children ● Successful completion of state mandated background checks - PA State Police, Child Abuse, FBI, and NSOR ● Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment health assessment ● Must complete and maintain all required trainings as mandated by OCDEL Preferred Qualifications: ● 2500 documented hours working and/or volunteering with children ● Previous experience working in a state regulated program or childcare center ● Some college education, preferably in education or human services Required Skills and Qualifications: ● Ensure a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for young children ● Provide active supervision and engage children consistently throughout the program day ● Demonstrate the ability to organize and implement developmentally appropriate activities ● Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills ● Ability to design, organize, and lead a variety of engaging, age-appropriate learning and play experiences ● Demonstrate sound judgement and decision-making to ensure the safety and well-being of all children Please apply for this position on our website: https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/ycp/ycds
