Manager of Development Fundraising
SUMMARY:The Development Manager (Part-Time) is responsible for leading MMSDC’s funding strategy andcultivating strategic relationships to secure high-value, multi-year investments that supportorganizational growth and program impact.This role manages the full lifecycle of grant funding at a strategic level, with a strong emphasison funder relationship development, opportunity positioning, and revenue generation. TheDevelopment Manager focuses on high-impact funding opportunities and partnerships whileworking in coordination with internal staff and/or grant support resources to executedeliverables.JOB DUTIES:Funding Strategy & Pipeline Development• Develop and maintain MMSDC’s funding strategy and priority pipeline, focusing on high-value opportunities• Identify and prioritize federal, state, corporate, and foundation funding aligned withorganizational goals• Build and track a targeted pipeline of high-impact funding opportunities rather than highvolume submissions• Package MMSDC programs into fundable, scalable initiatives aligned with funder prioritiesFunder Relationship Development & Engagement• Build, cultivate, and maintain strategic relationships with key funders, includingfoundations, corporate partners, and government agencies• Serve as a primary point of contact for select high-priority funders• Proactively engage funders prior to RFP release to position MMSDC for upcomingopportunities• Lead funder meetings, briefings, and presentations to communicate MMSDC’s impact andpriorities• Develop and execute targeted funder cultivation plans, focusing on quality over quantity• Partner with leadership to leverage existing relationships and expand MMSDC’s fundingnetwork• Identify and pursue invitation-only and relationship-driven funding opportunities• Position MMSDC as a trusted partner and leader within the funding ecosystemPerformance Tracking & Continuous Improvement• Track key performance metrics (pipeline value, funding secured, funder engagement)• Prioritize efforts based on highest return opportunities and strategic alignment• Continuously refine strategy to maximize impact within part-time capacitySUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:NoneQUALIFICATIONSMinimum Requirements:Local to the state of MichiganRegional Expertise: Must be based in or deeply familiar with the Michigan market tofacilitate frequent in-person engagement with key stakeholders.Established Network: Proven track record of existing relationships within Michigan’sphilanthropic circles, including private foundations, corporate giving offices, andcommunity stakeholders.Educational Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Business,Communications, or related fieldPrevious Work Experience:6–8+ years of experience in fundraising, grants development, or resourcedevelopmentDemonstrated success securing large-scale or multi-year fundingExperience building and managing funder relationships and funding pipelinesTechnical Skills Required:Strong grant strategy and proposal development expertiseProven ability to build and maintain relationships with funders and stakeholdersStrategic planning and analytical skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools (e.g.,Monday.com, Salesforce)COMPETENCIES:Entrepreneur Mindset – Identifies and pursues high-value funding opportunitiesConstituent-Centric Orientation – Builds and leverages relationships with fundersand partnersStrategic Thinking – Uses data and trends to inform funding strategy and decisionsCommunication – Develops compelling proposals and communicates organizationalimpact effectivelyResults Orientation – Manages multiple grants and deadlines across the fundinglifecycleCollaboration & Teamwork – Understands the impact of decisions on all areas of theorganization.
