Checkr is recognized on Forbes Cloud 100 2025 List and is a Y Combinator 2024 Breakthrough Company.About the roleWe are looking for a motivated and curious, solutions-oriented litigator to join our high-performing and highly collaborative Legal team. Our team advises stakeholders across the company to help Checkr reach its business and fairness goals. As Litigation Counsel, you will be a member of the Litigation and Compliance practice group, which works closely with Checkr's internal teams and external counsel to manage litigation matters and execute litigation strategies in state and federal courts. You will also partner with internal teams to identify potential product or process improvements.What you'll doManage/execute all aspects of litigation and other matters (e.g., subpoenas, demands)Conduct factual investigation, case analysis, exposure analysisReview pleadings and other litigation-related documentsLead discovery process and fact gathering, including witness preparationMaintain case files and matter tracking systemsWork with outside counsel to help formulate and execute nuanced litigation strategyPartner with team members and stakeholders to identify and implement product and process improvementsBuild cross-functional relationships to strengthen partnerships across the CompanyIdentify and manage techniques to increase the quality and efficiency of legal servicesDevelop an understanding of the Fair Credit Reporting Act and similar state laws and how they apply to Checkr products and servicesWhat you bring5+ years of substantive litigation experienceJD degree and CA bar admission in good standingInterest and enthusiasm towards new technologies and leveraging AIKnowledge of Fair Credit Reporting Act, employment laws, or criminal law is a plus, but not requiredExperience defending clients in highly regulated industries with consumer products and services is a plus, but not requiredYou're an educator - you can break down complicated laws and regulatory frameworks for non-lawyersYou're a skeptic - you're passionate about understanding how things work, and the first answer you find is rarely enoughYou're a clear communicator - you give practical, straightforward adviceYou're flexible - you're enthusiastic about learning and working on new subject mattersYou have a great sense of humor - obviouslyAn A-player mindset with a strong bias for action: you raise the bar, move with urgency, stay resilient through ambiguity, and take ownership to deliver meaningful outcomesWhat you'll getA fast-paced and collaborative environmentLearning and development allowanceCompetitive cash and equity compensation, and opportunity for advancement100% medical, dental, and vision coverageUp to $25K reimbursement for fertility, adoption, and parental planning servicesFlexible PTO policyMonthly wellness stipendPay Transparency DisclosureOne of Checkr's core values is Transparency. Our hub locations are Denver, CO, San Francisco, CA, Nashville, TN, and Santiago, Chile. Individuals are expected to work from the office 3 days a week. In-office perks are provided, such as lunch five times a week, a commuter stipend, and an abundance of snacks and beverages.
