Director, Finance & Accounting

You’ll be primarily responsible for overseeing the accounting and financial operations for Capital for Good (CfG) and Global Impact Social Welfare Fund (GISWF), and project accounting within the Operations Finance & Accounting team. The director manages day-to-day financial operations, project accounting activities, deliverables, and staff to ensure accurate financial reporting, operational efficiency, compliance, and strong internal controls across assigned entities and programs. This role will work closely with the existing Director, Finance & Accounting to support operational excellence, strengthen internal processes, and ensure alignment across finance and project accounting functions.You’ll be primarily responsible for overseeing the accounting and financial operations for Capital for Good (CfG) and Global Impact Social Welfare Fund (GISWF), and project accounting within the Operations Finance & Accounting team. This role will work closely with the existing Director, Finance & Accounting to support operational excellence, strengthen internal processes, and ensure alignment across finance and project accounting functions.ResponsibilitiesOversee the day-to-day accounting operations and internal controls for CfG and GISWF, leading team members within the departmentManage the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reportingReview and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, financial reports, and operational deliverables to ensure accurate information has been recorded and reported to stakeholdersOversee project accounting activities, including project setup, revenue recognition, billing, expense tracking, reporting, and project closeout processesOversee the day-to-day financial activities and distributions related to the Employee Assistance Fund programReview Geneva Global in-country program financials, including Ethiopia and Uganda operations, to ensure financials are audit-ready, compliant, and supported by appropriate documentationPartner with program and operational teams to monitor project financial performance, budgets, and spending trendsDevelop and maintain operational processes that support audit-ready financials and scalable growth across entities and programsMonitor compliance with organizational policies, donor requirements, grant agreements, and accounting standardsSupport annual audit and tax processes, including preparation and review of audit schedules, supporting documentation, and reporting deliverablesIdentify and implement process improvements and system enhancements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and cross-functional collaborationManage and coach accounting and project accounting staff; ensure the team delivers the highest standard of departmental, cross-departmental, and external teamwork, and customer serviceServe as a key liaison between finance and operational teams to reinforce financial policies, procedures, and best practicesPartner closely with the Director, Finance & Accounting on operational priorities, process improvements, financial reporting, and cross-functional initiativesSupport leadership with financial analysis, operational insights, and strategic recommendationsSupervision of accounting and project accounting staffQualificationsQualifying for this role means you have a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field and 10+ years of progressive accounting and nonprofit finance experience. You have experience managing operational accounting functions, project accounting, grant accounting, and financial reporting within a multi-entity environment. Experience with donor grant agreements, restricted funding, revenue recognition, audit preparation, and international program financial oversight is strongly preferred.You have demonstrated leadership experience managing and developing teams in a fast-paced environment and possess strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Local employees are in a hybrid work model, with 1-4 days per month in our Washington, DC headquarters office.
