Job DescriptionAmerican Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN PCU - Progressive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Indianapolis, Indiana.Job Description & RequirementsSpecialty: PCU - Progressive Care UnitDiscipline: RNStart Date: 04/06/2026Duration: 13 weeks36 hours per weekShift: 12 hours, nightsEmployment Type: TravelAssignment OverviewShift: Nights, 3x12hrsHours: 36 hrs/wkStart Date: Apr 6, 2026Length: 13 weeksOpenings: 1DescriptionAmerican Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at an academic teaching hospital in Indiana, requiring a minimum of 18 months experience, Cerner proficiency, and an IN or Compact RN license.Details32-bed mixed-model cardio-pulmonary unit with 15 PCU beds and 17 Med-Surg beds, with an emphasis on pulmonary carePrimary patient population includes cardiac medical, valve replacement (cardiac and pulmonary), COPD, CHF, pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer, lung transplant (pre and post), trach-to-vent, neurodegenerative and cervical spinal fracture trauma patients requiring trach-to-vent, flu, TB, and COVID-19PCU patient ratio is 1:4; Med-Surg ratio is 1:5-6; mixed PCU/Med-Surg assignments may range from 4-5 patientsNight shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30Travelers are expected to work every other weekend per contract; consecutive weekends may be required based on operational needsFloating required to different levels of care (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) within the hospital or to an affiliate hospital nearby; resources will be providedCharge nurse responsibilities may be assigned based on operational needs, with training and resources providedCerner EMR — experience requiredRequirementsActive IN or Compact RN license currently in handCurrent BLS and ACLS certifications required; both AHA and RQI formats acceptedMinimum 18 months to 2 years of RN experience required; Med-Surg RNs with ICU and PCU patient experience and at least 2 years of experience will also be consideredCerner charting experience requiredGraduation from a nursing program accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduationCOVID-19 vaccination required; medical or religious exemptions accepted with supporting documentationLocal candidates are not accepted for this positionIndiana-licensed RNs are not eligible for this PCU position (IN RN exclusion policy in effect as of 11/30/24 — Compact license holders eligible if not holding a primary IN license)Additional InformationAcademic teaching facility — all travel nurses must be willing to precept and/or have students shadow them during their assignmentFirst-time travelers are welcome to applyUp to 5 days of RTO may be auto-approvedCandidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidaysFormer permanent or PRN employees of IU Health must have been separated for at least 12 months before being eligible to work as a traveler13-week assignmentAmerican Traveler Job ID #P-682803.
