Patient Financial Specialist
Preservice Financial Counselor Duration: 6-month contract, possible to extend Location: Remote, must reside in California Pay Rate: ~$25/hr Shift: 8am-4:30pmMust Haves: 3+ years of experience in patient financial counseling and/or pre‑service collectionsStrong knowledge of insurance benefits (Medicare, Medicaid, and Medi-Cal), eligibility, CPT, and ICD‑10 codesDemonstrated ability to discuss payment expectations and secure upfront collections confidently and professionallyExperience with Epic EMR system Day-to-Day: Contact patients prior to scheduled services to provide pre‑service financial education, including estimated out‑of‑pocket costs. Generate accurate patient cost estimates using available tools (e.g., Epic Estimator) and supporting documentation. Review and interpret insurance benefits, coverage, and eligibility, including deductibles, co‑insurance, and co‑payments. Clearly explain insurance benefits and patient financial responsibility in a professional, empathetic, and confident manner. Collect patient payments prior to the appointment date, including full payment or payment plan setup, using approved payment methods.Benefits packages for this role will start on the 31st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching.
