As part of the larger Games Planning & Delivery group, the VNI team ensures that all venues are designed and developed with the highest standards for functionality, sustainability, and inclusion.The VNI Renovations team will be responsible for the coordination, planning, design, and construction oversight of a defined group of renovations to Olympic and Paralympic venues. Reporting to the Director, Engineering this role will oversee the associated engineering works for the renovations, including management of external engineering resources and internal engineering teams, ensuring each venue meets long-term community, compliance, and long term use objectives.This role will require extensive knowledge of the development of technical plans and designs of mechanical engineering systems related to heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and others. To support venue development efforts, this role is required to coordinate with multiple internal functional areas to ensure feedback is captured and designs meet industry codes and standards, IOC requirements, and cost and schedule targets. The ideal candidate will have strong experience managing capital works, leading multidisciplinary consultant teams, and working in complex stakeholder environments. A background in construction or infrastructure project management is essential.Key Responsibilities:Technical LeadershipLead mechanical engineering technical design and development, including internal and external engineers and consultantsOversee the relevant aspects of technical development of renovation projects and integration of existing infrastructure where relevantAnalyze existing infrastructure capacity studies and determine supplemental HVAC requiredCollaborate with architects and other engineers to integrate HVAC and related systems into the overall building designDevelop technical engineering design guides and principles and adapt IOC requirements to local practicesPrepare and oversee the mechanical portion of the venue design books and other technical publications. Advance engineering designs through increasing levels of detail from concept through construction drawingsManage and develop review process for plans to meet departmental milestonesOversee an installation team during operations and maintenance during the event periodEnsure compliance within workstream to Health & Safety regulationsCross-functional CollaborationClose collaboration with Energy, Technology and other infrastructure functional areas to integrate HVAC system requirementsCoordinate internal and external stakeholders' requirements to develop cost effective and streamlined engineering solutions to meet their games time requirements for each venueSupport the development of integrated workplans and schedules with the infrastructure master schedule, event operations planning, and central program managementPartner with Finance and Procurement teams to prepare costs, elevate delivery and procurement risks, and identify savings opportunitiesSupport other cross-functional initiatives, including Permitting, Risk Management, and Event OperationsBackground & Qualifications:5 years of Mechanical system design experience for new construction and/or renovations of large existing building projectsExperience developing and reviewing mechanical design documentation such as equipment layouts, ductwork and piping plans, flow diagrams, control schematics, equipment schedules, sequence of operations, and specificationsExperience specifying equipment and developing HVAC load calculations using industry standard software (i.e. IES VE, EnergyPro, CBECC, Trace 3D Plus, etc.)Advanced knowledge of engineering and collaboration tools and software (Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), etc.)Experience with key industry codes and practices, including California Building Codes (Title 24, Part 6), ASME, and ASHRAE StandardsKnowledge with fundamental project management concepts (scope, schedule, budget)Physical Requirements and Working ConditionsAvailable to work onsite in our Downtown Los Angeles-based officeThe majority of work will be conducted in an office setting, requiring extended periods of time using computers, phones, and other office equipment.The LA28 office is an open floorplan working environment; employees must be able to work efficiently in an open cubicle environment.Site visits requiring movement around varying environmental conditions in interior and exterior spacesPosition Requirements:Education:Required - Accredited bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Architectural EngineeringDesired - Professional Engineering licenseDesired - Project Management and Construction certificationsDesired - Experience in design and construction in the US and California marketsExpectations:Detail oriented with excellent command of productivity and collaboration tools (Office360, SharePoint, Smartsheet, Autodesk Construction Cloud etc.)Present information concisely to wide audience of internal stakeholders, external contractors and advisors, and governmental agenciesAbility to manage external consultants to meet project goalsAbility to work within a complex and demanding environment with many stakeholders while maintaining strong relationshipsDemonstrated commitment to co-creation and collaborative decision-makingSubmission Requirements:ResumeThe annual base salary range for this position is $105,000.00 - $140,000.00. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28's operational business needs and applicable law.LA28 does not provide relocation assistance.
