To learn more, please visit www.visionfund.com and https://group.softbank/en.About the role:As the Vice President of Tax, you will be a hands-on leader, responsible for building, scaling and managing the Company’s tax functions for strategic business initiatives centered on AI infrastructure development and related global operations. You will be reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the business, and will be responsible for designing, implementing, and leading the relevant tax functions and strategies while navigating the complex tax environment and a growing, multi-entity organization.The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise from a combination of public accounting and in-house tax environments, with demonstrated experience advising on complex tax matters, international structures, reporting and intercompany arrangements. You will act as the primary liaison between the Company and external advisors, auditors and tax authorities, to ensure accurate and compliant tax filings, management of tax risks, and drive planning opportunities. You will have strong financial and commercial instincts, executive presence, and the ability to thrive in a complex, fast-moving organization. You will work closely with the CFO and partner with the Finance, Legal, Treasury, and Business Development functions to support the Company’s long‑term objectives, including sustainable growth, capital efficiency, and disciplined risk management.Key Responsibilities:Design and implement a comprehensive tax operation framework aligned with the Company’s business objectives, ownership structure and long-term growth plans.Advising the CFO and executive leadership on the tax implications of key business decisions, including financing transactions, equity arrangements, intercompany transactions with the Company’s affiliates and M&A activity.Identify, develop, and implement tax planning strategies to optimize the Company’s global effective tax rate across U.S., Japan, and other applicable jurisdictions, including optimizing structure for available tax incentives, credits, and treaty benefits while ensuring alignment with evolving tax laws and regulatory requirements.Partner with supply chain, procurement, and operations teams to structure and support large-scale AI infrastructure buildouts, including equipment procurement, cross-border sourcing strategies, vendor arrangements, and logistics-related tax considerations.Oversee U.S. state and local tax planning and compliance activities, including income/franchise tax, sales and use tax, property tax, gross receipts tax, and nexus considerations related to multi-state operations, and infrastructure investmentsLead tax diligence and provide strategic tax support for corporate transactions, infrastructure investments, financing activities, and other key business initiatives, ensuring tax risks, and structuring considerations are thoroughly evaluated and addressed in alignment with the Company’s operational and long-term strategic objectives.Establish, enhance, and maintain a scalable tax governance and control framework, including policies, procedures, and internal controls that support accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and audit readiness across domestic and international operations.Oversee the preparation and review of all tax-related disclosures internal and external stakeholders, and coordinate with external auditors on tax related matters.Ensure timely, accurate, and complete preparation and filing of all U.S. federal, state, local, and international tax returns, while maintaining compliance with applicable tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements across all relevant jurisdictions that the business operates in.Manage the income tax provision process and ensure alignment with applicable accounting standards and financial reporting requirements.Maintain relationships with U.S federal, state, and international tax authorities, manage all aspects of tax controversy matters, including audits and disputes, and develop effective resolution strategies as necessary.Monitor and assess legislative, regulatory, and policy developments across jurisdictions, and proactively advise executive leadership and business stakeholders on the potential impact to the Company’s operations, investments, transactions, and overall tax strategy.Requirements:Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA certification, J.D. or LLM in Taxation strongly preferred.15+ years of progressive tax experience, with a meaningful combination of public accounting firm experience and senior in-house corporate tax roles.Deep tax technical expertise in U.S federal, state, local and international tax, including cross-border planning and transfer pricing.Prior experience managing ASC 740 tax provision processes in a public company or complex organizational environment preferred.Prior experience managing tax matters in a complex, globally operating organization.Demonstrate experience building, enhancing, or operating tax compliance, reporting, and control processes within a highly regulated or complex business environment.Prior experience of building or significantly scaling a corporate tax environment in a complex, fast-paced environment.Strong track record advising executive leadership on tax strategy, risk, and external reporting matters.Demonstrated experience managing tax audits and tax controversy matters at the federal, state, and international levels.Exceptional financial acumen with the ability to clearly communicate complex tax matters to non-tax stakeholders.Strong cross-functional collaborator comfortable working across Finance, Legal, Treasury, and senior leadership teams.Experience in a public company, Big 4, or global investment-driven organization strongly preferred.We are hiring for this position in NY and California, and are also open to candidates located in Ohio or Texas.
