Sr. Operations Accountant (E&P)
The Senior Operations Accountant is responsible for supporting the accounting and financial reporting functions related to upstream oil and gas operations. This role focuses on production accounting support, joint interest billing (JIB), revenue accounting coordination, lease operating expenses (LOE), accruals, and operational analysis. The ideal candidate will have strong E&P industry experience, attention to detail, and the ability to partner cross-functionally with operations, land, engineering, and finance teams.Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare and review monthly operational accounting entries, accruals, and reconciliationsAnalyze lease operating expenses (LOE), production costs, and field-level operating resultsSupport month-end and year-end close processes for upstream operationsPartner with production, revenue, and JIB accounting teams to ensure accurate reportingReview vendor invoices and coding related to field operations and capital projectsTrack and analyze AFE spending and capital expendituresAssist with fixed asset accounting, depreciation, and asset retirement obligations (ARO)Reconcile production volumes and operating data with internal systemsSupport internal and external audit requestsAssist with preparation of financial statements and supporting schedulesIdentify process improvement opportunities and help streamline accounting workflowsEnsure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policiesParticipate in special projects, acquisitions, divestitures, and system implementations as neededQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance5+ years of accounting experience within upstream oil & gas / E&PStrong understanding of oil and gas operations accountingExperience with LOE analysis, accruals, fixed assets, and operational reportingFamiliarity with production accounting and joint interest billing conceptsERP experience preferred (SAP, Oracle, OGSYS, Enertia, WolfePak, or similar)Advanced Excel skills requiredCPA or CPA-track preferredPreferred SkillsStrong analytical and problem-solving abilitiesExcellent organizational and communication skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentDetail-oriented with strong reconciliation experienceCollaborative mindset with ability to work cross-functionallyCompensation & BenefitsCompetitive base salary plus bonus eligibilityComprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage401(k) with company matchPTO and paid holidaysHybrid work flexibility (if applicable)Ideal BackgroundCandidates coming from:Upstream E&P companiesPE-backed oil & gas operatorsPublic accounting firms with energy clientsMidstream-to-upstream transition experience with strong operational accounting exposure
