Software Engineer, Infrastructure

Rainmaker builds systems to increase precipitation and improve water availability. We combine atmospheric science, autonomous aircraft, radar and satellite observations, weather modeling, and novel sensing technologies.Our software connects these systems, supports field operations, and turns each operation into data that improves the next one.The roleRainmaker is hiring a Software Engineer to own our production infrastructure and security.Your scope includes cloud infrastructure, deployments, observability, identity and access, secrets, vulnerability management, incident response, and recovery. You will build remote systems that work 24/7 and accommodate lost comms. Storms do not wait for business hours.What you'll doOwn production infrastructure end to end, setting the standards for how services get deployed, monitored, and recoveredBuild and maintain CI/CD pipelines and test infrastructure for rapid agentic developmentBalance rigor and security with the need for engineers to move quicklyWork across software, science, aircraft engineering, and field operationsWhat we're looking forA software engineer with experience building production infrastructureFast, thoughtful, autonomous, and opinionatedWilling to relocate to El Segundo, CABuilt and operated production systems. We care more about what you have shipped than your degree or years in the industryDeep familiarity with AWS and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Pulumi or TerraformManaged secrets and credential lifecycles in a fast-moving environmentDesigned or maintained zero-trust, WireGuard-based networks; we run almost everything on TailscaleWhat success looks likeYou will understand all of Rainmaker's critical systems, data flows, access model, and largest operational and security risks and have shipped at least one material improvement. Within your first year, critical services will be easier to deploy, observe, secure, and recover.
