Position Overview
We are excited to welcome an experienced Senior Accountant (CRE Development) to our growing team. This role requires a sharp eye for detail and focuses on supporting active development projects with accurate, timely, full‑cycle accounting—from initial budgets through project completion. As Sr. Accountant, you’ll oversee all financial management and reporting functions tied to active ground‑up development projects—ensuring accuracy, transparency, and strategic alignment across every phase of the process.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Reporting
Lead full-cycle accounting for development and operating real estate projects across Texas, ensuring accuracy under Income Tax Basis and/or GAAP.
Prepare and post monthly journal entries, including accruals, cost of sales, and revenue recognition for assigned assets.
Conduct monthly general ledger reviews to validate completeness and compliance with applicable accounting standards.
Project & Stakeholder Collaboration
Serve as the primary accounting liaison for project and development managers, providing financial insights and support.
Partner with third‑party property management teams to reconcile monthly operating results and ensure accurate financial reporting.
Coordinate cross‑functionally with internal teams to align on project‑related financial matters and timelines.
Financial Statements & Compliance
Prepare comprehensive financial statements and reporting packages for lenders, joint venture partners, and internal leadership.
Ensure timely and accurate compliance with lender reporting requirements, including monthly draw submissions and capital activity tracking.
Manage monthly capital calls and distributions for joint venture partners, maintaining transparency and audit readiness.
Asset Management & Budgeting
Set up and maintain fixed asset schedules; record depreciation and amortization for all operating properties.
Support the development and refinement of annual budgets and forecasts for both operating and development projects.
Prepare detailed Project Cost Summaries to track construction progress and budget adherence.
Investment & Transaction Accounting
Record equity contributions, distributions, and pick‑ups for general and limited partners, including minority interest allocations.
Oversee accounting for property acquisitions and dispositions, including waterfall calculations and journal entry preparation.
Review and summarize transaction documents to ensure accurate financial treatment under Income Tax Basis and/or GAAP.
Strategic Support & Special Projects
Respond to ad hoc requests and lead special projects for senior leadership, including the CFO and Controller, focusing on strategic financial insights and operational excellence.
Experience Requirements
Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field.
7+ years of accounting experience with ground‑up real estate development, operating assets, and/or partnership‑level accounting.
Real Estate software experience: Yardi, Excel.
