Assistant Preconstruction Manager

Position SummaryThe Assistant Preconstruction Manager at Fite Building Company supports the planning, estimating, and preconstruction process for commercial and industrial construction projects from early concept through project turnover. This role works closely with the Preconstruction and Operations teams to assist with estimating, quantity takeoffs, bid coordination, subcontractor and vendor management, value analysis, and project budgeting.This individual will contribute to the preconstruction department by performing quantity & specification takeoffs, creating scope sheets, subcontractor/vendor solicitation, document management, subcontractor coordination and supporting the Senior Preconstruction Managers with estimates and proposals. The role offers exposure to all phases of preconstruction and opportunities for growth within the department.ResponsibilitiesReview construction documents including plans, specifications, addenda, RFPs, and RFQs.Quantity takeoffs, material surveys, and project cost analysis.Support the preparation and management of project estimates throughout various stages of design and preconstruction.Solicit and coordinate bids from subcontractors and suppliers using bid solicitation software and direct outreach.Review and compare subcontractor and vendor proposals for scope, pricing, and completeness.Assist with value engineering and cost management exercises to support client goals and budgets.Participate in site visits, pre-bid meetings, walkthroughs, and project assessments.Assisting with estimating databases, trade partner lists, and historical cost data.Communicate with project teams, trade partners, architects, and clients to support project coordination and preconstruction efforts.Research building systems, materials, pricing trends, and construction methods to support estimating accuracy.Help ensure estimates, budgets, and deliverables are completed accurately and on schedule.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or relevant construction experience; field experience preferred, but not required.2–5 years of experience in estimating, preconstruction, or commercial construction preferred.Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.Working knowledge of commercial/industrial construction, materials, and methods.Experience with estimating software such as Bluebeam, Planswift, On-Screen Takeoff, Ediphi, Sage Estimating, ZZ Takeoff, or similar platforms preferred. Digital quantity takeoff software is required.Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Excel and Word.Strong communication and relationship-building skills with clients, coworkers, subcontractors, and vendors.Must be a motivated, detail-oriented, a self-starter and willing to learn in a fast-paced environment.Maintains professionalism, integrity, and a high standard of work ethic.Key CompetenciesStrong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple teams and stakeholders.Adaptable and responsive in a fast-paced construction environment.Demonstrates initiative, accountability, and ownership of assigned tasks.Maintains positive working relationships and communicates clearly and professionally.
