Sport Club Head Coach - Men’s Water Polo
GENERAL PURPOSE: Under the direction of the AS/SDSU Competitive Sports Coordinator, the Men's Water Polo Head Coach will be responsible for the supervision of all aspects of the competitive water polo program to include teaching; administration; dryland and deck coaching at all team events and functions. The position will be responsible for the safety and well-being of the participants in the program by enforcing policies and procedures as needed. The position averages 10-18 hours per week and requires availability for evening and some weekend hours.The Men's Water Polo Head Coach is responsible for the enforcement of rules, policies, and procedures as outlined in the Sport Club Handbook as well as all duties associated with coaching a collegiate club program. The successful candidate will be expected to enforce and comply with all policies and procedures established by Associated Students/SDSU, the Sport Club Program and the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) while serving as a positive role model for the program and SDSU.Primary FunctionsESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Complies with all job expectations as outlined in the Associated Students/SDSU Sport Club Coaching Agreement Ensures individual and program compliance with all policies and procedures of Associated Students/SDSU and Aztec Recreation Ensures safety of all team members, coaches and equipment is the top priority at all times Represents the team and Associated Students/SDSU in a professional manner at all timesWorks collaboratively with team officers and administrators to develop and achieve program priorities Achieves team recruiting goalsDesigns and implements practice schedules and training schemes for morning and/or afternoon practices Ensures scheduled practices begin and end on timeWorks with coaches from other programs and the CWPA to coordinate scrimmages and competitionsAssists with the necessary equipment maintenance and repairsMaintains team's positive community standing Assists in the outreach to alumni to recruit support for the teamFollows and understands of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) and the NCAA rules and regulationsRepresents the team in regional or national meetings with other coaches or organizationsPerforms other duties as assigned Customer Service and CollaborationEstablishes and maintains positive working relationships with various A.S. and University departmentsRepresents the team and Associated Students/SDSU in a professional manner at all timesMaintains positive and effective working relationships with all athletes and staffSafetyEnsures all operations are conducted with safety of staff and customers as first priority, and in accordance with the Injury and Illness Prevention Plan and other safety policiesAdheres to Associated Students' Code of Safe PracticesReports accidents to supervisor and reviews changes required to avoid reoccurrenceEnsures completion proper documentation is completed for each accident (employee and/or non-employee) and forwards to supervisorReports maintenance problems and/or broken and unsafe equipment to the appropriate party immediatelyQualificationsMinimum & Preferred Requirements Education:Bachelor's Degree preferredExperienceProficient knowledge of Aztec Recreation programs, facilities, and policies requiredKnowledge Microsoft applications and Aztec Recreation website requiredKnowledge and/or participation of Aztec Recreation programs and facilities preferredHas played competitive water polo at the collegiate levelHas experience coaching in the high school level or above water polo programLicense & CertificationAmerican Red Cross Lifeguarding certification requiredValid California Drivers' License and proof of automobile insurance are requiredTrainingsMust be completed within 30 days of hireAnti-Harassment Training for Supervisors Workplace Violence Prevention Data Security & PrivacyGender Awareness TrainingMust complete a Defensive Driving CourseAttend all mandatory Aztec Recreation/Sport Club Staff meetings and trainings as directedPERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONSMust professionally represent the Associated Students and San Diego State University at all timesMust be able to successfully fulfill the Essential Duties of this job description and meet performance expectationsMust be able to work with confidential items and understand the importance of confidentiality in project workMust be capable of maintaining positive working relationships with staff and athletesMust be able to exercise tact and exhibit sound professional judgmentMust be able to work well with different work stylesStrong organizational skills requiredMust be able to follow verbal and written directions and follow projects through to completionCommitment to adhere to all the policies, rules, and regulations of Associated Students/SDSU, Aztec Recreation and CWPA (Collegiate Water Polo Association)Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesDemonstrated commitment to student success and ability to recruit, train, and evaluate collegiate student athletesHave a strong coaching background with an emphasis on skill development and leadershipExcellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with student athletes, team officers, coaches, administrators and alumniExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to handle difficult situations involving participants with patience, good judgment, and with diplomacy is expectedSCHEDULE & WORKING CONDITIONSThis is a part-time hourly position.
