Electrical Engineer – Pump Station Design & Capital Projects
Location: Duluth, MN or Houston, TX
Work Environment: Hybrid (Office + Field Support)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to support the design and execution of capital projects related to liquids pump station facilities. This role is responsible for overseeing engineering design performed by third-party firms, ensuring all deliverables meet technical, regulatory, and quality standards while aligning with project budgets and schedules.
The position serves as a key liaison across project execution, operations, and shared services teams to ensure design integrity, constructability, and successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Design Oversight & Engineering Execution
Oversee and manage third-party engineering consultants to ensure high-quality, compliant design deliverables
Review and approve engineering documents including:
Electrical drawings and schematics
Technical specifications and reports
Equipment and material lists
Ensure all designs comply with applicable industry codes, regulatory requirements, and internal engineering standards
Provide technical input on electrical system design, including components, interconnections, and infrastructure
Project Coordination & Collaboration
Participate in cross-functional design review meetings with engineering, project management, construction, and operations teams
Ensure alignment between design scope, constructability, and operational requirements
Act as a technical liaison to ensure all stakeholder requirements are incorporated into project deliverables
Procurement & Technical Evaluation
Review vendor proposals and material quotations
Perform technical bid evaluations and recommend vendor selections based on:
Technical compliance
Cost competitiveness
Delivery timelines
Support procurement activities for major equipment such as motors, generators, electrical systems, and related infrastructure
Quality, Compliance & Continuous Improvement
Ensure adherence to safety, quality, and regulatory standards across all project phases
Identify and communicate lessons learned, design improvements, and quality issues
Support continuous improvement initiatives within engineering and project execution processes
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
Minimum 4+ years of relevant industry experience in electrical design or project engineering
Preferred:
Experience supporting industrial, energy, or infrastructure projects
Strong understanding of electrical systems design and applicable industry codes
Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
Strong problem-solving skills using engineering standards and practical experience
Ability to communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Working Conditions
Approximately 80% office-based work supporting design and coordination activities
Approximately 20% field work including site visits, project scoping, and support during construction and commissioning
Fast-paced environment with time-sensitive deliverables
Requires strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard engineering tools
