You will pay $59.00 for each registration, total of $118.00.$34.76 Hourly Rate, Paid hourly for the time worked.No NMPSIA Benefits, No NMERB Retirement Benefits, No PTO Accruals included in this position.SUMMARY:The substitute school nurse promotes and protects the health status of students and staff through functions in the areas of health services, health education, and maintaining a healthy environment. The major focus of substitute school nursing is to provide short term care for students and staff with acute injuries, illnesses, and aid with interventions in crisis situations. In addition, administering oral and injectable medications as needed. Critical thinking and excellent assessment skills are important in the treatment and triage of acute injuries and illness. The substitute nurse will manage students with chronic conditions such as Diabetes, Asthma, Seizure Disorders, ADHD, and Psychological Disorders, as well as others.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Some additional duties not listed may occur.HEALTH SERVICES:Provides direct nursing interventionAdministers appropriate level of first aid for illness and injury, including administering CPR, AED, and Narcan as neededProvides crisis intervention for emotional/physical disturbancesAdministers/supervises medication and monitors the effectsProvides individual health counseling concerning high risk behaviorsPerforms skilled nursing functionsKnowledge of basic computer software is important. The substitute nurse will need to document on a computer spreadsheet the assessments and outcomes of daily visits, as well as nurse actions with the possibility of filling out incident reportsWhen needed will perform wellness checks and substance abuse assessments at the secondary levelThe substitute nurse will leave a report for the daily school nurse of those events that occurred that are important for the nurse to be aware of for example, new orders and status changes with staff and students.HEALTH EDUCATION:* Provides health education for students, staff, and parents on an as needed basisHEALTHY SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT:Prevention and management of communicable diseasesParticipates as needed in promoting health related habitsEvaluates and assures student safety at all times including during emergency drillsGood organizational skills and the ability to communicate with children, parents and teachersQUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:A minimum of two years working experience in a clinical area of professional nursing with experience in school nursing desirable.RN Licensure and School Nurse License from New Mexico Public Education DepartmentCPR Certification requiredOTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and other health professionals within the community.
