Building Automation Programmer

Position OverviewWe are seeking a skilled Building Automation Programmer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting Building Automation Systems (BAS) in the field, with a focus on Johnson Controls Metasys and Tridium Niagara platforms.This position requires a strong understanding of HVAC systems—including central plants, rooftop units, air handlers, VRF systems, pumps, and VFDs—as well as the ability to work across multiple disciplines. You will collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, field technicians, graphics designers, and end-users to ensure each system is delivered to the highest standards.The ideal candidate is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and takes pride in their work. You will play a critical role in ensuring system performance, customer satisfaction, and the long-term success of our projects.Key ResponsibilitiesProgram, configure, and commission Building Automation Systems (BAS), including Johnson Controls Metasys and Tridium Niagara platforms.Perform field start-up, point-to-point checkout, and functional testing of BAS and HVAC equipment. Support TAB efforts and verify system performanceConfigure and integrate systems using BACnet and Modbus communication protocols.Perform startup, testing, and verification of:HVAC Control SystemsCentral Plants (Chillers, Boilers, Pumps, Cooling Towers)Rooftop UnitsAir HandlersVFDsVRF SystemsEnergy metering and lighting controlsDiagnose and resolve control and monitoring system issuesCollaborate closely with onsite trades, project managers, engineers, graphics designers, and end-users to ensure seamless project execution.Document programming logic, testing results, and as-built conditions.Provide exceptional customer service and act as a technical resource to clients and team members.Ensure all programming meets project specifications, industry standards, and client expectations.Maintain a clean driving record and represent the company professionally on job sitesWhat You Bring3+ years of hands-on experience with Building Automation Systems (installation, programming, commissioning, or service).Proficiency with programming and starting up HVAC systems including Central Plants, Rooftop Units, Air Handlers, VRF Systems, VFDs.Hands-on experience with Metasys Systems and/or Tridium Niagara systems preferred.Strong knowledge of control sequences, mechanical/electrical systems, and HVAC fundamentals.Ability to read and interpret control drawings, schematics, and mechanical plans.Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Excellent communication and teamwork skills; able to work with diverse teams in the field and office.Self-motivated and accountable, with a strong sense of ownership in delivering results.Strong math, organizational, and communication skills.Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record. Preferred QualificationsAssociate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.Manufacturer certifications (e.g., Niagara N4, JCI Metasys) highly desirable.Experience with energy management, system integration, or commissioning of advanced building technologiesOSHA 10/30, safety training, or other relevant certificationCompensation & BenefitsBedard Controls offers a competitive compensation package based on experience and qualifications.
