The Faculty seeks professionally qualified candidates with excellent records for a post on the joint establishment of the University of the Western Cape and the Provincial Administration of the Western Cape, on the conditions of service of the University of the Western Cape.The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas:Facilitate teaching, learning and training at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Prosthodontics, Assist with teaching, learning and training at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the other disciplines of dentistry, Rendering a Prosthodontic service on the combined platform i.e. Tygerberg and Mitchells Plain Oral Health Centres, Groote Schuur, Tygerberg and Red Cross Academic Hospitals and secondary hospitals where indicated, Conduct research and publish primarily in the disciplines and related disciplines of Prosthodontics,Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate clinical training and research supervision,Provide academic leadership and effective administration,Be proactive as a member or participant in national and international conferences, societies, editorial boards, statutory bodies, colleges etc. Undertake curriculum development and assessment,Participate in community engagement projects and assist with outreach programs,Be an ethical leader for the department university and profession.The Following Would Enhance An ApplicationPhD in a relevant field/Prosthodontics would be preferred in respect of an appointment at Senior Lecturer level,Experience in generating research grants.Minimum RequirementsMinimum Requirements: Valid registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Specialist in Prosthodontics (MChD / MDS/ MDent) with a minimum of 7 years’ experience after registration as a Prosthodontist,Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning, teaching and training, preferably in the field of Prosthodontics, A broad understanding in all aspects of the specialty,A record of peer reviewed publications (minimum 4), preferably in the field of Prosthodontics, A record of postgraduate student teaching, learning, training and research supervision (minimum 2 Masters),Evidence of expertise and national standing in his/her discipline,Evidence of management experience in Prosthodontics (minimum 5 years).The level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.Key CompetenciesLeadership and Management experience,Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, Presentation and facilitation skills,Adaptability and the ability to operate in a diverse environment,Student focused approach,Coaching and mentoring skills,Planning and organising skills,Computer literacy and e-learning skills,Technical professional knowledge and skills in the discipline and in the core strategic areas, namely learning and teaching, research and scholarship, community engagement as well as professional leadership.
