Drainage Engineer Intern
This is a full-time opportunity for college graduates who have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE) and have obtained their Engineering Intern (EI) license. We will also consider those who are in the process of obtaining their EI License.Purpose & NeedPGA’s Drainage Group is comprised of engineers and designers, preserving our communities, preventing irreversible flooding damage, and improving safety through innovative design. PGA was founded by two drainage engineers and has cemented a reputation for the highest caliber of transportation drainage design. This Chief Drainage Engineer will not only represent PGA directly to clients as a reliable subject matter expert and project manager, but will also foster and maintain long-term client relationships that will support PGA’s strategic growth goals. The ideal candidate should be motivated to pursue and lead exciting projects, energized to mentor developing staff, and ready to further advance their career with a firm eager to see them succeed.What You’ll DoProficient in drainage plans production and technical writingUnderstand the concepts of hydrology, including time of concentration calculationsUnderstand the concepts of ditch design and cross drain design (HY-8)Understand the concepts of storm sewer design, including pipe hydraulics and spread analysis (ORD-SUDA)Understand hydroplaning analysisUnderstand the concepts of pond design, including the calculation of treatment and attenuation volumes, nutrient loading calculations, and hydraulic modeling (ICPR)Understand the concepts of floodplain impacts and compensationUnderstand the concept of bridge hydraulics (HEC-RAS)Effectively research projects and assist with marketing efforts from a drainage point-of-vieGain proficiency in all drainage design standards, manuals, and design criteriaComplete peer reviews, backchecking calculations, and completing tasks from start to finishGain proficiency in the use of MicroStationRequire moderate technical supervision of tasks by senior staffComplete tasks and projects within established supervisor’s expectationsPerform field reviews as requiredWhat You’ll NeedBachelor's Degree or Equivalent from an ABET Accredited University, majoring in Civil or Environmental Engineering0-4 years of post-graduation experienceEngineering Intern (EI) certificateWhat You’ll BringKnowledge about CADD SystemsGood verbal and written communications skillsGood attention to detail and organizational skillsMust be able to effectively prioritizeAbility to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards in all work effortsAbility to perform multiple tasks in an organized mannerAbility to work independently and as part of a team on deadline-driven activitiesSkill in working with Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and other Office ProductsWorking ConditionsThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
