Director of Students' Rights, Responsibilities, and Residence Life - Onondaga Community College

Job Description The Director of Students' Rights, Responsibilities and Residence Life is responsible for leadership of the College's residence life program and services related to student conduct. The Director is responsible for facilitating a residential living and learning environment that supports student retention and success. The Director will work with staff to develop students holistically through educational programming while maintaining a safe and engaging living and learning environment. The Director will lead this department (with two functional areas) and is responsible for the recruitment, selection, professional development/training, and evaluation of all staff members. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES Utilizing institutional guiding documents, such as the College's Strategic Plan, Enrollment Management Plan, and Statement on Equity, provide strategic leadership in shaping the goals and operational plans for the Office of Student Rights & Responsibilities and the Residence Life that reflect a focus on student success and retention. Direct training, supervision, and evaluation of professional staff within the Office of Student Rights, Responsibilities and Residence Life. Oversee professional staff efforts to facilitate programming and activities that foster a positive living-learning environment, college-wide collaborations, diversity and inclusion, mutual respect, and student retention. Propose annual operating budget and oversee planning for expenditures. Oversee all management of the student disciplinary process, including review of campus safety reports to determine possible charges, coordination of conduct processes, and communication with related parties are consistent, timely, and follow established procedures. Participate in SUNY Student Conduct Association trainings and meetings to determine best practices being implemented at other SUNY institutions. Work closely with the campus partners to plan and implement preventive programming for high level conduct violations. Ensure that departmental efforts and responses related towards crisis management, mediation, conflict resolution, and student and family complaints are developmental and appropriate for the situation. Oversee resident move-in and move-out procedures, as well as monitor the room change/selection/re-reassignment, check in /check out processes for residents. Work closely with Campus Safety, Maintenance, Counseling Center, Fire Safety, SOLE, and Academic Affairs to promote a safe, secure, supportive, and healthy living environment for all students and staff. Oversee billing and damage billing for the residence halls. Serve as part of the "Residence Life Administrator On-Call (AOC)" for crisis management and residence life staff support; respond to campus and student emergencies as needed. Direct services and programs for summer conference groups. Prepare annual report on residence life programs and operations and supervise completion of all reports required by SUNY, state, federal, county and/or any other regulatory agencies, as well as outside funders. Perform other duties and special assignments as requested. Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or foreign equivalent Minimum of five years of related experience with three years of professional (full-time, post-graduate) experience in higher education in a supervisory role. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Master's degree from an accredited college or university Minimum of five years of professional (full-time, post-graduate) experience in higher education, with at least three years of Residence Life experience in a supervisory role Previous experience managing student conduct programs Evidence of taking a leadership role in developing and implementing new programs and systems that lead to improving results Bilingual. English and Spanish preferred, but English and other languages welcomed. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment and develop effective relationships with key stakeholders external to the Division Ability to effectively work within diverse student populations with an understanding of and appreciation for individuals of various backgrounds Must be proactive, demonstrate sound judgment, have excellent communication and problem-solving skills Excellent supervisory, organizational and training skills Skill in program development and execution Demonstrated commitment to personal and departmental development, professionalism, multicultural education, creativity, collaboration, and initiative Ability to build, develop, train, and evaluate a strong leadership team committed to quality services, engaging communities, and collaborative relationships that touch all corners of the institution Solid understanding of student conduct trends with the ability to implement strategies that mold the learning and living environment into pathways for student success Ability to manage multiple tasks and effectively prioritize among competing needs Ability to utilize assessment data to guide development of effective initiatives for continuous improvement Must have the ability to handle confidential information in a professional and sensitive manner Must have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a diverse student population, parents and staff Must possess a willingness to take initiative on new projects and embrace change Additional Information Salary range is: $64,420 - $80,526, commensurate with credentials and relevant experience.
