The Burlington School District seeks a dynamic, student-centered professional to serve in the dual role of Certified Athletic Trainer and Athletic Coordinator. This position combines comprehensive sports medicine responsibilities with athletic department leadership, operations, event management, and program coordination. Providing high-quality athletic training services to student-athletes across the district while assisting the District Head of Athletics with the daily operations and administration of BSD Athletics. Serving as a member of the Athletics Leadership Team and work collaboratively with coaches, administrators, school nurses, physicians, students, families, and community partners to support the health, safety, and success of all student-athletes. The nature of athletics requires flexibility and extended hours. Evening, weekend, holiday, and occasional outdoor work in challenging weather conditions are required, particularly during the winter athletic season. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the tasks, knowledge, and abilities required to perform this job successfully:Student-Athlete Health, Safety & Wellness:Provide injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and return-to-play services for student-athletesDeliver athletic training coverage for preseason, regular season, and postseason practices and competitionsImplement injury prevention programming including taping, bracing, stretching, conditioning, and educationEvaluate injuries using clinical assessment techniques including range-of-motion and manual muscle testingCoordinate immediate and emergency care for injured student-athletesDevelop and oversee individualized rehabilitation and reconditioning programsAssist with pre-participation physical clearance and return-from-injury clearance processesSupport athletic orientation and student-athlete wellness education initiativesDevelop and maintain venue-specific Emergency Action Plans in collaboration with district nursing staffInspect and maintain AED units, emergency equipment, and medical suppliesSupport student-athlete academic monitoring and eligibility proceduresOperations, Facilities, & Resouce Management:Assist with day-to-day athletic department operations and event managementEstablish and maintain daily hours of operation for the athletic training facilityAssist with scheduling practices, contests, transportation, officials, and facility usageCoordinate game management staffing and supervision for home athletic eventsAssist with oversight of athletic facilities, equipment safety, maintenance, and inventory managementMaintain cleanliness, organization, and operational readiness of athletic training facilitiesCoordinate uniforms, equipment distribution, inventory, and purchasingEstablish and manage budgets, inventory, purchasing, and ordering of athletic training supplies and medical equipmentAssist with seasonal game confirmations, awards programs, and team operationsSupport implementation of departmental goals, facility improvements, and strategic initiativesCommunication, Collaboration & Community Engagement:Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, coaches, school nurses, physicians, administrators, and student-athletes regarding participation and health statusCoordinate physician referrals, follow-up care, diagnostic testing, and medical appointmentsEstablish and maintain positive working relationships with specialty physicians and community healthcare providersSupport communication with students, parents, coaches, staff, officials, and community organizationsCollaborate with Burlington Parks, Recreation & Waterfront and community partners regarding facilities and programmingSupport athletics website updates, social media communication, and promotional effortsAssist with fundraising efforts and community engagement initiativesRepresent district athletics at meetings, conferences, and events as assignedLeadership, Program Development & Professional Practice:Support leadership of district-wide athletic operations and programsAssist with implementation of strategic initiatives and departmental goalsParticipate in ongoing professional development and continuing education requirementsPromote best practices in athletic training, student support, and athletic operationsContribute to continuous improvement of athletic services, facilities, and student-athlete experiencesCompliance, Documentation & Administration:Maintain accurate and confidential medical documentation and injury recordsMaintain athletic department records, rosters, schedules, and eligibility documentationAssist with injury-related insurance claims and reporting proceduresEnsure compliance with district policies, healthcare regulations, state licensure standards, Title IX requirements, and professional ethical standardsHelp foster equitable access and inclusive participation opportunities for all student-athletes in alignment with district equity initiativesSupport supervision and evaluation of coaches and athletic staffPerform additional administrative duties and other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS: Job Requirements: Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, Exercise Science, or related field.Current NATA Certification.Current Vermont Athletic Training Licensure (or eligibility to obtain prior to start date);Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification;Valid Driver's License Preferred Qualifications:Master's DegreePrevious athletic administration experience preferredCoaching experience preferredExperience working with high school and middle school-aged studentsKnowledge of NFHS, VPA, and interscholastic athletics operationsExperience with event management and athletic scheduling systems Preferred Attributes:Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of student records and medical informationBroad understanding of sports medicine, injury prevention, rehabilitation, and athletic healthcareKnowledge of emergency response procedures and best practices in athletic trainingAbility to collaborate
