Head Coach: Nordic Skiing
Responsibilities Saint Michael's College is seeking a Head Nordic Coach to lead a comprehensive program aligned with the College and Athletic Department's mission. The coach will create a safe, respectful environment that supports student-athlete well-being, academic success, and strong coach-athlete relationships. Responsibilities include overseeing year-round training and competition, as well as managing the roster, budget, equipment, and travel planning. The role also involves strategic recruiting in collaboration with Admissions and maintaining consistent, thoughtful communication with prospective student-athletes. As an engaged campus leader, the coach will promote life skills, community service, and teamwork while contributing to department-wide initiatives. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Plans and conducts practices during the season on a daily basisCoaches the team members during competition throughout the seasonRecruits prospects for the team throughout the year and maintains database on ARMS softwareArticulates Saint Michael's College mission and vision as neededCounsels student-athletes with a focus on personal developmentResponds to requests and inquiries specific to the program, from within the department and College as well as outsideAttends staff meetings on a monthly basisPromotes academic excellenceSees the value of cultural, ethnic, gender, and other individual differences in people. Helps to create an environment of learning about, valuing, encouraging, and supporting differencesServes as an event management for competitions in their non-Championship segmentIn collaboration with the Head Alpine Coach, supervise the Kelley Ski Center. Applicants should have the following: Bachelor's degreeRequires at least 5 (five) seasons of coaching Nordic skiing at the collegiate, professional, or Olympic level (club coaching will be considered). Experience competing as a Nordic skier at the collegiate, national, or Olympic levels will count towards this requirement.The ability to recognize several likely causes of events, analyze relationships among several parts of a problem or situation, and then formulate a multi-step response.Reads and interprets a wide range of information. May interpret documents to others. Regularly writes reports and correspondence. Able to shift writing style as needed for different audiences. Regularly explains policies, listens to questions, responds, and problem solves.
