Family Peer Support Specialist

Job TypeFull-timeDescriptionAMHC is looking for afull-time Family Peer Support Specialist candidate who will be a vital member of the Children's Behavioral Health Home team.You will provide compassionate, peer-based support to families and caregivers of children and youth experiencing behavioral health challenges.Drawing on lived experience, this role helps families navigate complex systems, access resources, build advocacy skills, and feel empowered throughout the recovery journey.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesPeer Support & GuidanceProvide non-judgmental, empathetic emotional support grounded in lived experienceOpenly share personal recovery experiences to instill hope and understandingSupport families in coping with stress, crisis, and uncertaintyPromote respect for each family's unique recovery pathOffer practical strategies for self-care, stress management, and mental well-being Family Education & Advocacy Advocate for family needs within healthcare, school, and community systemsAssist families in identifying unmet needs and accessing servicesEducate families and the community on recovery principles and stigma reductionPromote family involvement in treatment planning and decision-makingParticipate in and organize trainings, workshops, and agency in-services Resource Navigation & Referral Provide information and referrals for mental health and substance use servicesAssist families with problem-solving barriers to care (appointments, transportation, follow-through)Maintain ongoing assessment of recovery needs and resource gapsConnect families to community supports to increase independence and stability Documentation & Collaboration Maintain accurate, confidential documentation in compliance with agency and funding requirementsCollaborate with clinicians, case managers, social workers, and other team membersParticipate in team meetings, case conferences, and trainingsGeneral ExpectationsMaintain confidentiality of client and agency informationProvide a welcoming, inclusive environment for all individualsFollow all agency policies, procedures, and regulationsWork collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary teamDemonstrate cultural humility when working with diverse populationsBe flexible to meet client and agency needs, including occasional overtimeMaintain a valid driver's license and reliable transportation Physical & Work RequirementsAbility to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and use standard office equipmentOccasionally lift or move up to 10 poundsWork occurs in office, community, and family settings and requires travel within assigned catchment areasReasonable accommodations will be made as appropriateRequirementsThis position requires a High School Diploma or its equivalent.Applicant must have a minimum of 3 years of lived experience in parenting or in a parenting role (meaning biological parent, caregiver, foster parent, or grandparent) with at least one child/youth who lived with the applicant for 3 or more years who is receiving or has received services and support related to the diagnosis of a mental illness, and who is willing to self-identifyAMHC is an equal opportunity employerSalary Description
