About the role
RNWBL is seeking a motivated and analytical utility-scale Wind Performance Engineer to support the monitoring, analysis, and optimization of renewable energy assets across our solar, wind, and battery energy storage system (BESS) portfolio. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of relevant experience in renewable energy performance or a related field, a strong foundation in data analysis and scripting (Python or similar), and a desire to grow within performance engineering.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience supporting utility-scale wind assets, including exposure to wind performance data, availability tracking, or turbine-level analytics. The Performance Engineer will work closely with Operations and Performance Engineering teams to deliver accurate, consistent, and actionable performance insights across a diverse renewable portfolio.
This role plays a critical part in automating analytics, maintaining data quality, and identifying operational issues that impact asset availability and energy production.
Key Responsibilities
Analyze operational and performance data from utility-scale solar, wind, and BESS assets
Execute, maintain, and improve Python-based or scripted analytics workflows used for performance monitoring and diagnostics
Support monthly and annual performance reporting, including data validation and KPI calculations
Assist in identifying performance losses related to availability, curtailment, equipment outages, and environmental conditions
Collaborate with Operations to investigate anomalies and support root-cause analysis
Help automate repetitive reporting and data processing tasks to improve efficiency and consistency
Maintain clear documentation of scripts, methodologies, and performance assumptions
Contribute to continuous improvement of internal performance engineering tools, templates, and workflows
Clearly articulate analytical findings, assumptions, and conclusions to customers through written reports and discussions
Participate in team meetings and provide clear updates on assigned analyses and tasks
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Environmental Science, or a related technical field
At least 3 years of experience in renewable energy, power systems, data analytics, or a related technical role
Working proficiency in Python or another scripting language (required)
Familiarity with SQL, version control (Git), or cloud-based data environments preferred
Experience working with time-series data and large datasets
Familiarity data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) is a plus
Experience supporting or analyzing utility-scale wind assets is strongly preferred
Basic understanding of utility-scale renewable energy systems (solar, wind, and/or BESS)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams
Eligibility Requirements
Must be authorized to work in the United States
Ability to work in a hybrid environment in our Tempe location
Willingness to occasionally support time-sensitive operational analyses
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally
Must be able to navigate between multiple software platforms and data systems
