Patient Financial Counselor

This is on-site position Monday to Friday 8-5pm in our Fort Myers office.Key ResponsibilitiesServe as the primary point of contact for patients regarding financial obligations, insurance coverage, and payment optionsVerify insurance benefits and eligibility, including commercial, Workers’ Compensation (WC), and Auto Injury claimsProvide upfront cost estimates and explain patient financial responsibility prior to servicesManage and follow up on patient balances, including collections and payment arrangementsCoordinate billing processes to ensure accurate and timely claim submission and reimbursementHandle Workers’ Compensation and Auto Injury cases, including claim setup, authorizations, and ongoing account managementWork closely with billing team to resolve claim denials, underpayments, and discrepanciesMaintain compliance with payer guidelines, state regulations, and practice policiesDocument all patient interactions and financial agreements in the practice management systemAssist with financial hardship applications and payment plan administration as neededQualificationsMinimum 2–3 years of experience in medical billing, collections, or financial counseling, preferably in an orthopedic or specialty practiceStrong knowledge of insurance verification, billing processes, and reimbursement methodologiesExperience with Workers’ Compensation and Auto Injury programs requiredFamiliarity with CPT/ICD-10 coding and medical terminology preferredProficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) and practice management systemsExcellent communication and customer service skillsStrong attention to detail and problem-solving abilitiesKey CompetenciesPatient-focused communicationFinancial counseling and negotiation skillsOrganization and time managementAnalytical thinking and follow-throughAbility to handle sensitive financial discussions with professionalism and empathyWork EnvironmentFast-paced orthopedic practice settingFrequent interaction with patients, providers, insurance companies, and legal representatives (for WC/Auto cases)
