Job Story Want to help prevent summer learning loss for middle school students? Are you ready to walk alongside students as they work towards their academic and career dreams? Come work with TRIO Talent Search for the Summer Enrichment Program and support program participants during their classwork and on engaging educational field trips. Job Summary A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms. Job Duties Summer Program Aides are responsible for supervising middle school (6th-8th grade) students in a classroom setting while instructors teach coursework in math, science, language arts, and financial literacy, assisting teachers as needed. They will also assist with paperwork for documentation of services provided to students based on federal guidelines and write summary reports for field trip/guest speaker days. Additional duties are as follows Check-in students and dismiss students during parent pick-up at WOOLSEY HALL (7:30am-1:00pm) Supervise students during class time (45min) and monitor students in hallway if leaving classroom for restroom breaks Supervise students during dismissal/parent pick-up Document services and write reports for field trips and guest speaker activities (every THURSDAY-various location) *Reports due on the Friday following the event Document service entries in student files and electronic database Must work June 26 - July 1 (No exceptions) supervising students with program staff on overnight college road trips (transportation & lodging provided) Read and adhere to the Tutor Policies and Procedures Handbook Attend all tutor trainings, meetings, and other planned events during the summer Complete necessary paperwork, including timesheets and tutoring summaries, on time Must report on time and be dressed appropriately Required Education High School diploma or equivalent. Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at Wichita State University. Additional Requirements Current enrollment at WSU, Freshman-Graduate level 3.0 GPA or higher Must be willing to work May 26 - July 1 (No Exceptions, must inform supervisor of any personal appointments) Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Ability to work with a diverse group of students (low income and/or first-generation students) Ability to work independently and as a member of a team Maintain confidentiality of program materials and student information Ability to provide guidance, support and motivation to others Perform job tasks in an ethical and professional manner Must have an interest in helping students succeed academically Required Experience This is specific to each position and department. See additional requirements and preferences. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of federal TRIO programs Physical Requirements Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
