Summary:Join Rush University Medical Center as a Clinical Systems Architect and help shape the technology that powers patient care across a leading academic health system. In this role, you will design and architect integrated solutions that support critical clinical and pharmacy systems, ensuring seamless connectivity between third-party applications and the enterprise Electronic Medical Record, including Epic. Your work will directly support clinicians, pharmacists, and operational teams by delivering reliable, secure, and scalable systems that enhance patient care and streamline clinical workflows.As a technical leader, you will guide the architecture, integration, and lifecycle management of enterprise clinical and pharmacy applications. You’ll partner with clinical stakeholders, pharmacy teams, IT colleagues, and vendors to implement and optimize complex systems, lead integrations using technologies such as HL7 and interface engines, and ensure solutions align with organizational strategy, security standards, and regulatory requirements.This is an exciting opportunity for a healthcare IT professional who enjoys solving complex integration challenges and designing enterprise-level solutions that support both clinical and medication management workflows. If you’re passionate about leveraging technology to improve care delivery and thrive in a collaborative, mission-driven environment, this role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact while working with cutting-edge healthcare technology.Responsibilities:Solution Design & ArchitectureDesign and maintain end-to-end application solutions integrating third-party systems with Epic EMR and other related systemsDefine system architecture, data flow, and integration standards to support clinical and operational workflowsEvaluate application solutions for scalability, reliability, security, and long-term sustainabilityApplication Integration & SupportLead integration efforts utilizing HL7, Epic Bridges, and interface enginesOversee implementation, upgrade, and optimization initiatives for enterprise applicationsServe as escalation point for complex or systemic issues and assist with resolutionEnsure systems meet organizational security, compliance, and availability requirementsTechnical Leadership & Project OversightServe as application or technical lead for cross-functional projectsCoordinate with vendors, security teams, and internal stakeholders to deliver solutions on time and within scopeProvide direction and guidance to analysts and technical team membersParticipate in governance, project review, and change management processesOperational ExcellenceNavigate ITSM tools (e.g., ServiceNow) for project trackingSupport system maintenance, patching, and vendor-managed upgradesDevelop and maintain technical documentation, workflows, and process standardsPerform data analysis and reporting using scripting, SQL, and productivity tools as neededStakeholder EngagementMaintain transparent communication with business and clinical stakeholdersTranslate business requirements into technical architecture and solution designsPromote collaboration and continuous improvement across digital and Information Services and operational teamsRequired Job Qualifications:Bachelor’s Degree5+ years of experience in healthcare clinical information systems, application integration, or solution architectureExperience with system to system connections, HL7 interfaces, and interface engines (e.g., Cloverleaf/Ensemble)Demonstrated experience leading application implementations and integrationsStrong communication, documentation, and stakeholder engagement skillsPreferred Job Qualifications:Master’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field7 + years of experience in healthcare clinical information systems, application integration, or solution architectureEpic Certification in Major Epic Application (Willow, Orders, ClinDoc, Ambulatory)Any of Epic Bridges, Cogito, Clarity, Caboodle certified or proficientExperience with enterprise clinical and ancillary systems, including but not limited to:Pyxis (BD), OmnicellIntegrated Infusion Pumps (Alaris, CADD solis)CAPS, CPR+, HoverCam, CareTend (WellSky), AnywhereRN, ProtenusRobotics, printers, scanners and other clinical peripheralsExperience with ServiceNow or similar IT service management platformsScripting or automation experience (VBS, command line)SQL and data analysis experiencePrior experience in healthcare security, regulatory compliance, or system migrationsLimited experience in health system related patient care role (pharmacy technician, imaging technician, medical assistant or any others not otherwise stated) Rush is an equal opportunity employer.
