Accountant I - Aviation Department
ABOUT THIS POSITION
Over 52 million passengers traveled through Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in 2024, one of the busiest airports in the country and in the nation's 5th largest city. Sky Harbor is the largest of three airports in the Phoenix Airport System (Phoenix Sky Harbor, Deer Valley, and Goodyear airports) which is operated by the City of Phoenix Aviation Department and has an economic impact over $44 billion annually.
The Aviation Department has a vacancy for an Accounts Receivable (AR) Accountant I in the Financial Management Division. The purpose of this position is to provide customer service to internal/external customers of the Aviation department. This position will focus on customer payments, recording revenues, and completing customer collection processes. This position will work closely with the Accountant I's, Accountant II's and Accountant III in FMD. Work is performed with independent judgment and general direction.
Major job responsibilities include and are not limited to
Analyze SAP customer accounts.
Mail monthly invoices and clear credits.
Posting of customer payments and revenue in SAP.
Review and process daily work from customer service counters.
Process billing received from Aviation division staff.
Maintain and update business procedures and policies.
Provide customer service via telephone and electronically.
Work with SAP software daily to input, review, and process transactions.
Maintain SAP billing contracts and review/enter sales-based revenue reports.
Handle correspondence and difficult inquiries to resolve account balances timely.
Issue and track collection notifications to delinquent accounts in 30-, 60-, and 90-day increments in accordance with department and City policies.
Assist other Accountants as needed.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
Knowledge of accounts receivable functions.
Familiarity with accounting transactions rules, regulations, and internal controls.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under pressure.
Ability to be analytical, detail oriented, able to work independently, and contribute as a team player.
SALARY
Pay Range: $26.18 to $40.61 per hour.
Hiring Range: $26.18 to $36.84 per hour.

Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification.
Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
Internal Only: Please understand that this is pay grade 049. If selected, your salary offer will be based on the applicable promotion or demotion worksheet in accordance with the City Pay Ordinance.
Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase.
Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease.
Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.
When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
OR four years of paraprofessional accounting and/or payroll experience.
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
Customer service experience.
Experience using Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
Experience working in an aviation or airport environment.
Experience reconciling accounts for internal and external customers.
Experience working with computerized accounting systems and software such SAP and PeopleSoft.
