Chemical Engineer II, Air Quality & Emissions Systems

Contract Duration: Contract through May 31, 2028 (High potential for extension)Location: Campbell Generating Complex, West Olive, MI 49460 (on-site)Position OverviewThe Chemical Engineer II will serve as a key technical owner of Air Quality Control Systems (AQCS) at a coal-fired power generation facility. This role is responsible for ensuring emissions control systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with environmental standards. The engineer will collaborate closely with Operations and Maintenance teams to optimize performance, improve reliability, and support plant-wide engineering initiatives.Key ResponsibilitiesOwn and optimize air quality control systems including SCR, PJFF, SDA, DSI, ACI, UBAS, and ash/waste handling systemsMonitor system performance and conduct inspections during planned and unplanned outagesAnalyze and optimize waste streams including ash handling and water effluent systemsPrepare technical specifications for chemical equipment and materials procurementDevelop cost estimates for materials, labor, and construction projectsForecast consumables (urea, carbon, lime) and manage associated budgetsProvide technical guidance to Operations and Maintenance teamsConduct equipment condition assessments and recommend repair, replacement, or upgradesEnsure compliance with regulatory standards, safety codes, and customer requirementsPerform detailed engineering calculations to establish system specifications and standardsPrepare technical reports, documentation, and project updates for stakeholdersSupport cross-functional teams with engineering expertise and problem-solvingDesign, implement, and improve chemical systems, processes, and equipmentManage project timelines, budgets, and deliverablesServe as a point of contact for engineering-related project mattersRequired QualificationsEducationBachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited programOREngineering degree from a non-ABET program with a Professional Engineering (PE) licenseExperience4–7 years of relevant chemical engineering experienceStrong knowledge of chemical engineering principles and industrial processesExperience with air emissions control systems in power generation or heavy industryUnderstanding of PLC/DCS control systemsProficiency in CAD and engineering/data analysis toolsKnowledge of environmental regulations and safety standardsStrong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilitiesExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical teamsProject management and organizational skillsJ-18808-Ljbffr
