Project Accountant
Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Project Accountant to join a growing team in Morristown, New Jersey. This role will oversee the financial performance of project work by supporting reporting, cost control, and forecasting activities across the business. The ideal candidate brings strong accounting knowledge, experience in project-based environments, and the ability to translate financial data into clear business insights.Responsibilities:- Oversee the accounting lifecycle for assigned projects, including budget monitoring, cost oversight, revenue treatment, and review of financial variances.- Produce project and company-level financial reports that support informed decision-making and accurate performance measurement.- Contribute to monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities by preparing entries, schedules, and supporting documentation.- Assist in developing consolidated financial statements and related reporting packages for internal and external use.- Examine project-related expenses to confirm they are complete, accurate, and assigned to the proper accounts.- Work closely with project managers and operational leaders to evaluate forecasts, spending trends, and overall financial health.- Perform account reconciliations, research discrepancies, and drive timely resolution of outstanding items.- Support audit requests and help maintain compliance with internal controls, accounting standards, and company policies.- Assess project financial results to identify profitability trends, cost risks, and opportunities for improved performance.- Recommend and support enhancements to accounting workflows, reporting tools, and system usage efficiency. Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.- At least 3 years of accounting experience with exposure to financial reporting and consolidated results.- Background in public accounting is preferred.- Solid knowledge of financial statement preparation, month-end close, reconciliations, and variance analysis.- Hands-on experience with project accounting, ideally within construction, engineering, detail-focused services, or another project-driven setting.- Proficiency with Deltek, Deltek Vision, and Microsoft Excel.- Strong analytical thinking, organization, and communication skills.- Ability to balance multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.Robert Half is the world's first and largest specialized talent solutions firm that connects highly qualified job seekers to opportunities at great companies.
