Lead Instrumentation & Controls Commissioning Technician
TTS' Industrial Services Group has a need for an experienced Lead Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Commissioning Technician to support commissioning and startup activities for large-scale industrial and energy infrastructure projects. This role will be heavily involved in field execution, startup coordination, contractor oversight, system testing, and turnover activities for critical facility systems including substations, process equipment, control systems, and utility infrastructure.The ideal candidate is a hands-on commissioning professional with strong technical knowledge, leadership capabilities, and experience working in fast-paced construction and startup environments. This position is field-based and will require working on-site during commissioning and startup phases.Key ResponsibilitiesLead field execution of commissioning and startup activities for industrial process, utility, and power-related systemsCoordinate commissioning efforts between construction teams, engineering, operations, vendors, and subcontractors to support project schedules and system readinessFacilitate daily commissioning meetings, track progress, and help resolve startup issues in the fieldSupport energization planning, system turnover, and operational readiness activitiesEnsure all commissioning work is executed safely and in compliance with project procedures, quality standards, and environmental requirementsPerform and oversee loop checks, functional testing, point-to-point verification, and control system validation activitiesInstall, inspect, calibrate, and troubleshoot instrumentation including pressure, temperature, flow, and level devicesAssist with startup and verification of PLC, DCS, SCADA, and plant automation systemsTroubleshoot instrumentation, communication networks, and control logic issues during commissioning and early operationsCoordinate with equipment vendors and engineering teams to resolve technical deficiencies and support warranty-related itemsLead system walkdowns and punch list resolution activities prior to turnoverMaintain commissioning documentation including loop packages, calibration records, test reports, turnover documentation, and redlinesSupport management of change (MOC) and configuration control processes throughout startup and turnover phasesMentor junior technicians and provide technical leadership to commissioning personnel and contractorsCollaborate closely with electrical, mechanical, operations, and construction teams during startup activitiesRequired QualificationsAssociate degree in Instrumentation, Electronics, Controls, or related technical field preferred; equivalent field experience considered5+ years of commissioning, startup, or maintenance experience within power generation, industrial facilities, utilities, oil & gas, or related energy sectorsDemonstrated experience with industrial instrumentation and control systemsStrong understanding of commissioning procedures, startup execution, and system turnover processesAbility to interpret P&IDs, loop drawings, wiring diagrams, control narratives, and electrical schematicsExperience using calibration and diagnostic test equipmentStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in live field environmentsProven ability to coordinate multiple work scopes simultaneously while maintaining schedule awarenessStrong communication and leadership skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple disciplines and contractor groupsCommitment to maintaining high safety standards and safe work practicesPreferred QualificationsPrevious experience supporting power plants, substations, renewable energy, geothermal, or utility-scale industrial projectsFamiliarity with PLC, DCS, HMI, and SCADA systemsExperience with commissioning standards and structured turnover processesStartup and commissioning experience in brownfield or greenfield projectsCertifications related to commissioning, maintenance, reliability, or project management are a plusExperience leading contractors or field commissioning teamsAbility to work independently in remote or field-based project environmentsIf interested, please submit your resume to resumes@ttsenergyservices.com
