Land of the MooseTHE AREA - Chelsea/Augusta Maine
Not all of America's frontier county lies in Alaska, or in the great roadless spaces of the Rocky Mountains. Much of Maine has the look and feel of a place settled yesterday - and in parts, not settled at all. Where the mighty Kennebec River spills out of the Moosehead Lake and roils through a logging and sporting empire, the terrain still bears a rugged look. This territory belongs to the loon, the bear, and most of all, the lordly moose.Chelsea resides in the spectacular Kennebec River Valley. The physical beauty and outdoor adventure of the region will stretch your imagination, heighten your senses and create memories that will last a lifetime. Visitors and residents have access the the peaks of the Appalachian Trail, the spray of Moxie Falls, and the highest groomed snowmobile trail in all of Maine. Four nationally designated scenic byways in the state include the nearby Old Canada Road.Population- 25,000Best Airport- Portland International (55 mins from Augusta, 60 daily flights: SW, Delta, American, United, Republic, Direct to: Atlanta, Baltimore, Charlotte, Chicago )THE TONGUS VAMC
