Attorney - Appellate Practice

Trustpoint.One is pleased to partner with a boutique appellate law firm in Detroit in their search for an Attorney to join their growing team. This role is ideal for an attorney early in their career who is eager to build deep appellate experience while working closely with experienced practitioners on sophisticated matters in state and federal courts.Position OverviewThe Appellate Attorney supports appellate matters by conducting legal research, drafting briefs and motions, and assisting with appellate strategy. The firm offers strong mentorship, hands-on training, and increasing responsibility as skills develop.Key ResponsibilitiesReview trial court records and transcripts to assist in identifying appellate issuesConduct legal research and case law analysisDraft sections of appellate briefs, motions, and petitions under supervisionCite-check and edit briefs for accuracy and compliance with court rulesAssist in preparing oral argument materials and participating in moot courtsTrack deadlines and ensure compliance with appellate procedural rulesCollaborate with trial teams and senior appellate attorneysQualificationsJuris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law schoolLicensed and in good standing with at least one state bar1–3 years of legal experience (appellate experience preferred but not required)Strong legal research and writing skillsFamiliarity with state and/or federal appellate procedures is a plusJudicial clerkship experience is beneficialSkills & CompetenciesExcellent written communication and analytical skillsStrong organizational and time-management abilitiesAttention to detail and citation accuracyAbility to accept feedback and revise work productProfessionalism and sound judgmentAll candidates must be able to work at a computer screen for a sustained amount of time.
