Position SummaryThe Assistant Deli Manager supports the Deli Manager in overseeing daily department operations, ensuring high standards of food quality, customer service, safety, and team performance. This role helps drive sales, manage labor, maintain compliance, and develop associates while ensuring the department operates efficiently and profitably.Key ResponsibilitiesDepartment Operations & ExecutionSupport daily deli operations including production, merchandising, ordering, and inventory controlEnsure fresh, high-quality products are prepared and displayed according to company standardsMaintain accurate production planning, shrink control, and waste reduction practicesAssist with opening, closing, and overall department organization and cleanlinessCustomer ExperienceModel and promote excellent customer service standardsAddress customer questions, requests, and concerns promptly and professionallyEnsure service counters, hot cases, and self-service areas are fully stocked and visually appealingTeam Leadership & TrainingAssist with hiring, onboarding, training, and coaching deli associatesLead daily work assignments and support proper labor deploymentProvide performance feedback, recognition, and corrective coaching as neededFoster a positive, respectful, and safety-focused team environmentFood Safety, Safety & ComplianceEnsure strict adherence to food safety, sanitation, and temperature control standardsEnforce personal hygiene, cleaning schedules, and safe food-handling proceduresSupport compliance with company policies, health department regulations, and safety programsAssist with inspections, audits, and corrective action plansSales, Labor & PlanningSupport execution of promotions, ads, and seasonal programsHelp manage labor to align with sales volume and operational needsReview department performance metrics and assist with improvement plansQualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent (required)Previous experience in deli, food service, or retail leadership preferredKnowledge of food safety and sanitation standardsStrong customer service, communication, and coaching skillsAbility to work in a fast-paced, hands-on environmentFlexible availability including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidaysAbility to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 poundsCore CompetenciesFood safety and quality focusTeam leadership and associate developmentOperational organization and executionCustomer-first mindsetProblem-solving and attention to detail
