Temporary Attorney - Litigation

The OpportunityAn Agency of the City of New York seeks experienced litigators to defend cases under New York’s Adult Survivors Act (AVA) and Child Victims Act (CVA). This is a long-term, temporary engagement with the potential for permanent employment. The position is onsite in lower Manhattan with an hourly rate of $35 - $50, plus benefits.Primary DutiesThe successful candidates will be assigned to the Tort Division which defends the City of New York in a broad range of cases, including allegations of institutional abuse under the AVA and CVA. Regular court appearances are required to attend discovery or other status conferences and argue motions. Attorneys take and defend depositions, request and exchange discovery, engage in settlement negotiations, and write and argue substantive and procedural motions. In addition to substantive, pre-trial responsibilities, first and second chair trial duties are expected.
