Academic Dean - Assessment

The Dean provides strategic leadership, vision, and operational oversight for the college's institutional assessment efforts and faculty development programs. This position is responsible for promoting a culture of continuous improvement by guiding faculty through student learning outcomes (SLO) assessment, program review, and evidence-based teaching practices. The Dean acts as a key liaison between academic departments and instructional support services to improve student retention, persistence, and academic success.Constant (67-100%)Lead the development, implementation, and analysis of student learning outcomes (SLO) assessment at the course, program, and institutional levels.Coordinate program review processes, ensuring alignment with institutional strategic goals and external accreditation standards (e.g., Higher Learning Commission/regional accreditors).Design and facilitate comprehensive professional development initiatives focused on pedagogical innovation, active learning, and educational technology.Develop and manage the instructional coaching program, providing hands-on support and feedback to full-time and adjunct faculty to enhance teaching effectiveness.Implement data-driven coaching cycles to help faculty utilize student performance data to inform teaching methodologies.Frequent (34-66%)Foster a culture of mentorship by pairing experienced faculty with new instructors to improve retention and instructional quality.Collaborate with Academic Deans, Department Chairs, and faculty to align curricula with assessment findings and industry standards.Supervise assigned staffManage budgets related to assessment tools, faculty development workshops, and instructional resources.Serve on college-wide committees, including Curriculum Committee and Assessment Advisory Council.Occasional (10-33%)Assist in preparation of program and college-wide accreditations.Participate in professional development activities to remain current and knowledgeable in instructional design and methods, best practices in assessment; maintain a working knowledge of assessment and curriculum-management software tools.Serve on shared governance committees as assigned.Plan, conduct, and/or attend meetings to represent the college, division, and/or departments.Perform additional duties as assigned.PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:* Be able and willing to represent Iowa Central Community College in a positive manner with prospective, former, and current students, clients, suppliers, and the community we serve.* Must maintain discretion of sensitive and confidential information.* Must possess excellent communication skills, both orally and in composition.* Must possess strong human relation skills and get along with diverse personalities.* Must demonstrate a high degree of flexibility and be willing to work beyond normal work hours on occasion.* Must exhibit ability to deal positively and effectively with deadlines.* Must possess good organizational skills.* Must exhibit ability to assume responsibility.* Must possess excellent computer skills.* Must possess the willingness and desire to learn new computer programs and attend training that may be required.Minimum of Master's Degree in a discipline within one of the departments. Ph.D. preferred. Four years of successful educational work experience of which a minimum of two years must have been at the community college level.
