Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Operations for Hematology, Blood and Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapies (HBC), the Director of Nursing, HBC is a clinical leader and contributes to the development of UCSF Health and the Cancer Center's strategic goals and objectives as well as overall standards of nursing practice. The Director of Nursing is a member of the HBC management team and works within the framework of the mission and values established by UCSF Health. The Director of Nursing oversees all adult HBC faculty practices clinical operations, systems and processes, providing direct and indirect supervision of administrative and clinical staff in multiple departments including; malignant hematology, nonmalignant hematology, blood & marrow transplant and cellular therapies.The Director of Nursing ensures exemplary provision of care to research and standard-of-care patients in both inpatient and ambulatory settings. Working in a matrixed environment, the Director of Nursing partners to develop systems for integration with the broader health system (e.g. infusion, radiation oncology, inpatient services, pharmacy, imaging, labs, UC satellite locations). The Director of Nursing ensures patient care standards are achieved and in alignment with internal policies and rigorous external regulations, including those set by TCH, AABB, ASTCT/CIBMT and FACT to maintain accreditation status for stem cell transplants and CAR-T therapies. The Director of Nursing serves on system-wide and cross-functional committees and has external presence in community and professional organizations and societies. Responsibilities would include assisting the Director of Operations and the VP/COO with annual goal setting and assisting with the implementation of strategies to achieve the goals. Qualified candidates have RN or NP licensure, direct care and management experience in an oncology setting and are passionate about enhancing oncology staff, provider and patient experience. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. Department Description
The UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center in an accredited National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center. The NCI-Designation recognizes the scientific leadership, resources, and the depth and breadth of the research in basic, clinical and population science. The clinical services encompass adult and pediatric tumors across three campuses as well as regional satellite locations. Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in NursingMinimum of 5 years' nursing leadership experience within an outpatient Hematology/Blood and Marrow Transplant/Cell Therapy program or equivalent combination of education, training, and experienceRegistered Nurse in the State of CaliforniaAHA CPR CertificationIn depth clinic / center patient care management skillsIn-depth knowledge of patient population served and the requirements for the delivery of servicesPractice management knowledge in scheduling, customer-service methods, regulatory compliance, accreditation requirements, and / or information technologyFamiliar with the policies, best practices, and standards involved with effective clinic / center administrationDemonstrated ability to launch and lead department and institute-wide strategic initiatives from concept through implementation, completion and maintenance phasesDemonstrated ability to build, motivate and instill accountability within effective teams that include both clinical and non-clinical rolesStrong knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processesStrong knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing, and compliance environmentsStrong knowledge of current and emerging best practices and technologies in the clinic / center healthcare industryExcellent communications and interpersonal skills to foster and promote an environment for effective communication and collaborative decision making across multiple units and disciplinesExcellent change management and conflict resolution skillsExcellent leadership, fiscal, and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management and staff from all disciplinesExcellent skills in all aspects of successfully directing clinic / center patient care and / or clinic operations including developing strategic plans, creating benchmarks, integrating programs and functions, and fiscal managementAbility to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration, and consistent achievement of objectives
Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree Training in quality improvement or Lean methodologyExperience supervising staff in a union environment Leadership experience in a large academic medical center setting Experience with QA/The Joint Commission process for quality improvement Oncology Certified Nurse
License/Certification
Registered Nurse in the State of California and / or licensure in relevant clinical specialtyAHA CPR Certification
