Radiology - Sonographer/Ultrasound Tech

Sonographer Under general supervision and following established procedures, the incumbent operates ultrasound imaging equipment to acquire images and communicates sonographer impressions to interpreting physicians. The incumbent must have problem-solving skills and actively participate in departmental initiatives. The incumbent must effectively communicate with students, peers, patients, and physicians to ensure the safety and quality of imaging. Exercises independent judgment to modify scan techniques for optimal image quality. Must be solution-oriented, exemplify professional, respectful, and inclusive behavior with all staff, patients, visitors, and students. Actively participates in departmental initiatives. The incumbent participates in call, holiday, and shift rotations as required by the department. May be required to rotate among locations with appropriate training. Ensures that two points of patient identification, date of birth and full name, are obtained to verify the correct patient is being treated. Reviews the order for the exam and indications, and the patient's chart for pertinent clinical history. Prepares and cleans the equipment and room for each patient. Maintains stock levels to ensure rooms are ready for patient care. Uses clear communication when explaining the exam to the patient, taking into consideration physical and emotional needs. Ensures understanding and maintains ethical standards, including patient confidentiality and professional conduct. Works collaboratively with the leadership team to ensure smooth and efficient patient flow, as well as optimal utilization of ultrasound scanners. Delivers patient care under the scope of license and training. Assumes all responsibilities for on-call and holiday coverage. Remains flexible in all shift coverage and overtime situations as necessary. Performs all duties pertaining to the performance of clinical ultrasound exams. Oversees and instructs sonographers, professional staff, and students within the department. This includes, but is not limited to, ultrasound equipment operation, protocols, and other technical aspects. Performs all duties pertaining to the performance of research ultrasound exams and participates in research programs, quality assurance, and quality improvement projects. Must be able to perform support tasks as outlined by the department. Comprehensive understanding of computer operations relating to imaging, electronic health records, reporting systems, PACS, and all hospital information systems that integrate with the department. Possesses analytical abilities necessary to effectively utilize advanced knowledge of imaging processes, techniques, procedures, and anatomy. Exemplifies flexibility and willingness to adapt to operational needs while presenting as a positive representative of the department. Exhibits excellent attention to detail, written communication, and interpersonal skills. Uses independent judgment and initiative under pressure in various situations. Maintains effective working relations and communication with colleagues and patients. Ability to work independently and guide, teach, and motivate others. BLS certification required.
