We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Controller to join our team.Job OverviewReporting to the Director of Finance, the Controller directs the day-to-day accounting operations of the practice and serves as a key financial partner to leadership. This includes producing accurate and timely financial reports, maintaining an effective system of internal controls, and ensuring compliance with tax and healthcare-specific reporting requirements.Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Reporting & Close• Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP.• Prepare and present financial reports, variance analyses, and key metrics to executive leadership.• Oversee the general ledger, chart of accounts, and all account reconciliations within QuickBooks Online.Internal Controls & Compliance• Design, implement, and maintain a robust system of internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure the integrity of financial data.• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax filing requirements, coordinating with external tax advisors on income tax provisions and returns.• Ensure compliance with healthcare-specific regulations and reporting requirements applicable to the business (e.g., third-party payer reporting and reimbursement rules).• Coordinate annual audits or reviews and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors and tax preparers.Revenue Cycle & Healthcare Accounting• Partner with revenue cycle and billing teams to ensure accurate recording of patient and third-party payer revenue, contractual allowances, accrued revenue, and bad debt reserves.• Oversee accounting for payer contracts and reimbursement programs as applicable.Operations & Treasury• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, and cash management functions.• Monitor cash flow, banking relationships, and debt covenant compliance.• Support the annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes in partnership with the Director of Finance.Systems & Process Improvement• Maintain and optimize the use of QuickBooks Online, including its integrations with payroll, billing, expense management, and reporting tools.• Evaluate whether existing financial systems can scale with the organization and recommend improvements or migrations as the business grows.• Establish and document accounting policies, procedures, and workflows to drive efficiency.Management of External Bookkeeping Team• Direct and oversee the work of the outsourced bookkeeping team, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately, completely, and on schedule.• Set expectations, review deliverables, and provide ongoing feedback to maintain high standards of quality and timeliness.• Serve as the primary point of contact for the bookkeeping firm, managing the scope of services, escalating issues, and ensuring accountability against deadlines.• Manage and allocate workload across internal staff and the external bookkeeping team to ensure responsibilities are balanced, resources are used efficiently, and deliverables are completed on time. QualificationsRequired• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including responsibility for managing staff or external service providers.• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.• Hands-on proficiency with QuickBooks Online and advanced Excel skills.Preferred• CPA designation.• Healthcare industry experience, including familiarity with third-party reimbursement and payer contracts.• Experience in a multi-entity environment.• Experience managing outsourced or offshore accounting functions.• Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.Key Competencies• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.• Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.• Sound judgment, integrity, and discretion in handling confidential information.• Ability to manage and hold accountable a remote or external team without direct reporting authority.• Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines independently.
