Must be dependable, accountable, and cooperative. Assists in providing safe, age-appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams according to department procedures. Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in the utilization of the equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patient for the procedure. Works with students during their clinical rotation. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data, and assesses for contraindications. Follows established procedures for the administration of contrast media to minimize patient discomfort. Ensures all studies have proper patient identification and markers are utilized appropriately. Reviews radiographic images for clinically acceptable results. Responds to emergency situations and provides for the restocking of the crash cart. Assists other technologists in all modalities when needed. Observes patient condition and evaluates situations when physician intervention is necessary. Verifies two unique patient identifiers and correct clinical orders prior to performing a procedure. Ensures patient's privacy and comfort. Demonstrates competence in the determination and application of appropriate procedures and techniques based on the age of patients. Organizes schedule and priorities to accomplish required activities within designated time frames. Uses critical thinking skills and seeks clarification on ambiguous orders. Understands and demonstrates pre-and-post procedural care. Demonstrates and understands sterile technique when applicable. Maintains competency with venipuncture, where applicable. Equipment: Demonstrates the ability to adjust technique so that patients receive the lowest possible dose of ionizing radiation while maintaining image quality. Reports problems regarding malfunctioning equipment to supervisor. Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment in accordance with infection control policy. Ability to operate radiographic equipment safely and competently. Education and Communication: Patiently and clearly explains the purpose of the exam to the patient prior to starting the procedure. Ensures that patient questions and concerns are satisfactorily addressed. Participates in the orientation and training of departmental employees. Provides preparatory instructions and explanations of procedures. Required documentation is concise, legible, and includes precise terminology. Completes mandatory education requirements. Quality Control: Consistently produces high-quality images and ensures equipment is fully operational prior to each use. Sends all studies to digital storage and maintains accurate processing and labeling. Operations: Restocks linens and supplies, maintaining cleanliness in the imaging services area. Transports and positions patients for procedures. Performs patient charging activities on the day of service. Applies shielding and supporting devices as needed. Willingly assists others as required. Maintains individual productivity rates comparable to co-workers. Maintains compliance with all relevant standards and regulations. Able to transfer and retrieve images on the digital storage system. Works on call when necessary. Performs other assigned duties as needed. Complies with all relevant policies and procedures.
