Must be dependable, accountable, and cooperative. Assists in providing safe, age-appropriate care to patients by performing all exams according to department procedures. Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patients for the procedure. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Verifies proper clinician order for procedure. Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data, and assesses for contraindicating conditions. Follows established procedures for the administration of contrast media to ensure patient safety. Ensures all studies have proper patient identification and markers utilized appropriately. Reviews CT/radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients. Responds to emergency situations and ensures proper maintenance of life support equipment. Assists other technologists in all modalities when needed. Observes patient condition and evaluates situations for physician intervention. Ensures patient privacy and comfort are accommodated. Maintains patient dignity throughout the exam/procedure. Demonstrates competence in the determination and application of appropriate procedures based on patient age. Organizes schedule, time, and priorities to accomplish required activities within designated time frames. Follows physician instructions when assisting with procedures and exams. Demonstrates proficiency with loading and operating power injection. Uses critical thinking skills and engages in meaningful dialog with patients and families. Seeks clarification on ambiguous orders. Understands and documents pre-procedural verification and Time Out process when appropriate. Demonstrates and understands pre-and-post procedural care. Prepares the patient for the procedure. Demonstrates and understands sterile technique. Maintains competency with venipuncture. Equipment Management: Adjusts technique to minimize radiation dosage while maintaining image quality. Reports malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor for timely correction. Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment following infection control policies. Education and Communication: Clearly explains the purpose and nature of exams to minimize anxiety and facilitate cooperation. Addresses patient questions and concerns satisfactorily and notifies physician when necessary. Participates in the orientation and training of departmental employees. Provides patients with preparatory instructions and explanations of procedures. Ensures documentation is concise, legible, and accurate. Reads email each day scheduled to work and follows through with assignments. Completes mandatory education without prompting. Quality Control: Consistently produces acceptable images based on feedback and quality audits. Checks equipment for proper calibration and functioning before each use. Sends all studies to PACS immediately after completion and prints CDs as needed. Completes all studies in the reporting system before concluding in PACS. Operations: Restocks linens and supplies, maintaining a clean and orderly department. Transports and positions patients for procedures. Performs patient charging activities on the day of service. Applies shielding and supportive devices as necessary. Actively assists others when requested, using time efficiently. Performs clerical and support duties as needed. Keeps supervisors informed of responsibilities continuously. Maintains individual productivity rates equal to co-workers. Additional Responsibilities: Ability to operate all workstations associated with the imaging department. Takes call when necessary.
