Overview As a Structures Design Engineer at Hermeus, you design and deliver primary and secondary aircraft structures for hypersonic vehicles. You own hardware from early trade studies through flight test, collaborating with propulsion, aerothermal, manufacturing, and test teams. You will balance weight, stiffness, and thermal considerations while iterating rapidly to incorporate test feedback. This role combines hands-on design with system-level thinking in a mission-driven environment. Compensation / Benefits100% employer-paid health care401k & Retirement PlansUnlimited PTOPaid Parental LeaveEnd of Year BonusesStock Options ResponsibilitiesDesign and develop primary and secondary aircraft structures (fuselage, wings, control surfaces, and supporting structure)Perform structural trade studies considering weight, strength, stiffness, thermal environment, manufacturability, and costGenerate detailed CAD models, drawings, and GD&T for flight and test hardwareCollaborate with analysis engineers on stress, fatigue, fracture, and thermal-structural assessmentsWork with manufacturing to support fabrication, assembly, and tooling developmentSupport vehicle integration, ground testing, and flight test activities, including troubleshooting hardware issuesParticipate in design reviews and contribute to system-level architectural decisionsDrive rapid iteration cycles and incorporate test/flight feedback into design improvements Key requirementsBachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field3+ years of experience in structural design of aerospace vehicles or high-performance mechanical systemsProficiency with CAD tools (NX, CATIA, or equivalent)Strong understanding of structural fundamentals.collaboration across cross-functional teamsability to work in ambiguous problem spacesstrong communication and problem-solvingCAD: NX or CATIA (or equivalent)structural design fundamentalsexperience with high-temperature materials and metallic/welded structures (preferred)
